أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْجِبْتِ وَٱلطَّٰغُوتِ وَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَهْدَىٰ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ سَبِيلًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Dost thou not know of those who were given a portion of the Book? They believe in evil things and follow those who transgress, and they say of the disbelievers, ‘These are better guided in religion than those who believe.’

English - Five Volume Translation

Important Words:

الجبت (evil things) means: (1) an idol or idols; or the name of a certain idol belonging to the Quraish; (2) that which is worshipped instead of God, whatever it be; (3) that wherein there is no good; (4) a diviner or an enchanter or the like; (5) the Devil or Satan; (6) enchantment or magic (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

The Muslims believed in all the Prophets mentioned in the Bible and also in the Divine origin of the Law that was given to Moses, yet so great was the hatred of Jews for them that they declared the idol-worshippers of Arabia, who rejected their Prophets as well as their Scriptures, to be better guided than Muslims. It is regrettable that some present-day Muslims also have the hardihood to say that it is better to renounce Islam than to accept Ahmad, the Promised Messiah, than whom there is no greater champion of Islam.

English - Short Commentary Translation

Hast thou not seen those who were given a portion of the Book? They believe in evil objects[617] and follow those who transgress, and they say of the disbelievers, ‘These are better guided in religion than those who believe.’[618]

Al-Jibt means, an idol or idols; that wherein there is no good; a diviner; the Devil (Lane).

کیا تُو نے اُن کی طرف نظر نہیں دوڑائی جن کو کتاب میں سے ایک حصہ دیا گیا تھا۔ وہ بتوں اور شیطان پر ایمان لاتے ہیں اور اُن لوگوں کے متعلق جنہوں نے انکار کیا کہتے ہیں کہ یہ لوگ مسلک کے لحاظ سے ایمان لانے والوں سے زیادہ درست ہیں۔

N’as-tu pas entendu parler de ceux à qui une partie du Livre fut donnée ? Ils croient à des choses maléfiques et suivent ceux qui transgressent. Et ils disent à propos des mécréants : « Ceux-ci sont mieux guidés en matière de religion que ceux qui croient. »

Weißt du nicht von denen, denen ein Teil der Schrift gegeben wurde? Sie glauben an Nutzloses und an die Frevler, und sie sprechen von den Ungläubigen: "Sie sind in der Lehre besser geleitet als die Gläubigen."

你不知道那些曾受赐过一部分经典的人们的状况吗? 他们信仰无用的东西, (跟从) 作奸犯科者。关于不信的人, 他们说: “这些人比信仰的人是更受领导的。”

Non sai di coloro ai quali fu data una parte del libro? Credono negli idoli e in Satana e dicono dei miscredenti: «Costoro sono meglio guidati nella religione di coloro che credono.»

Spanish

¿No has visto a quienes se entregó una parte del Libro? Creen en cosas malvadas, siguen a los pecadores y dicen de los incrédulos: “Son mejor guiados que los que creen en la religión”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

کیا تجھے ان لوگوں کا حال معلوم نہیں جنہیں کتاب (الٰہی) میں سے کچھ حصہ دیا گیا تھا (کہ) وہ بے فائدہ[4] (باتوں) اور حد سے بڑھنے والوں پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں اور کافروں کے متعلق کہتے ہیں کہ یہ لوگ مومنوں کی نسبت زیادہ ہدایت یافتہ ہیں۔

قرآن مجید میں جِبْت کا لفظ ہے اور لغت میں لکھا ہے کہ جِبْتٌ وہ چیز ہوتی ہے جس میں کوئی فائدہ نہ ہو (اقرب)

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

کیا تم نے اُن لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جنہیں کتاب کے علم میں سے کچھ حصہ دیا گیا ہے اور اُن کا حال یہ ہے کہ جِبت اور طاغوت کو مانتے ہیں اور کافروں کے متعلق کہتے ہیں کہ ایمان لانے والوں سے تو یہی زیادہ صحیح راستے پر ہیں

English - Sahih

Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, who believe in superstition and false objects of worship and say about the disbelievers, "These are better guided than the believers as to the way"?

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کیا تم نے ان لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جنہیں کتاب کا کچھ حصہ دیا گیا وہ بتوں اور شیطانوں کو مانتے ہیں اور کافروں سے یہ کہتے ہیں کہ یہ لوگ مسلمانوں سے زیادہ راہِ راست پر ہیں

Do not you see [towards] those who were given a portion of the Book? They believe in the superstition and the false deities, and they say for those who disbelieve[d] "These (are) better guided than those who believe[d] (as to the) way.

قرآن مجید میں جِبْت کا لفظ ہے اور لغت میں لکھا ہے کہ جِبْتٌ وہ چیز ہوتی ہے جس میں کوئی فائدہ نہ ہو (اقرب)

Hast thou not regarded those who were given a share of the Book believing in demons and idols, and saying to the unbelievers, 'These are more rightly guided on the way than the believers'?

Have you not seen those to whom a portion of the Book was given? They believe in baseless superstitions and taghut (false deities), and say about the unbelievers that they are better guided than those who believe.
