قُل لَّآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِندِى خَزَآئِنُ ٱللَّهِ وَلَآ أَعْلَمُ ٱلْغَيْبَ وَلَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ إِنِّى مَلَكٌ ۖ إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ ۚ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ ۚ أَفَلَا تَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Say: “I do not say to you: ‘I possess the treasures of Allah,’ nor do I know the unseen; nor do I say to you: ‘I am an angel.’ I follow only that which is revealed to me.” Say: ‘Can a blind man and one who sees be alike?’ Will you not then reflect?

Say: [d]“I do not say to you: ‘I possess the treasures of Allah,’ nor do I know the unseen; nor do I say to you: ‘I am an angel.’ [e]I follow only that which is revealed to me.” Say: ‘Can a blind man and one who sees be alike?’ Will you not then reflect?[796]

Commentary:

The words, I do not say to you, I possess the treasures of Allah, imply that when the Quran says that the Messengers of God are the announcers of glad tidings, this should not be construed to mean that as soon as a person believes in a Prophet of God, he acquires wealth. He will have to wait for the favours of God to come at their appointed time.

The words, nor do I say to you, I am an angel, here imply that it is not in the power of the Prophet to bring down punishment, for he is not "an angel of punishment."

After the above declarations it might be asked what good there was in following the Prophet when worldly favours took time in coming and when the Prophet was so powerless against his enemies. The Quran answers this implied question by saying that the getting of a treasure was not the only boon which one could desire. The perfect guidance which was received through the Prophet was a great blessing in itself for those who accepted the guidance were like one who possessed eyes, while those who rejected it were like one who had no eyes, and the blind and the seeing could never be alike. These are matters to be reflected upon and pondered over.

تو کہہ دے میں تم سے یہ نہیں کہتا کہ میرے پاس اللہ کے خزانے ہیں اور نہ ہی مَیں غیب کا علم رکھتا ہوں اور نہ میں تم سے کہتا ہوں کہ مَیں فرشتہ ہوں۔ مَیں اس کے سوا جو میری طرف وحی کی جاتی ہے کسی چیز کی پیروی نہیں کرتا۔ کہہ دے کیا اندھا اور دیکھنے والا برابر ہوتے ہیں؟ پس کیا تم سوچتے نہیں۔

French

Dis : « Je ne vous dis pas que je possède les trésors d’Allāh, et que l’invisible m’est connu. Je ne vous dis pas non plus : ‘ Je suis un ange’, et je ne fais que suivre ce qui m’est révélé. » Dis : « Un aveugle et quelqu’un qui voit sont-ils pareils ? » Ne voulez-vous donc pas réfléchir ?

German

Sprich: «Ich sage nicht zu euch: "Bei mir sind Allahs Schätze", noch weiß ich das Verborgene; auch sage ich nicht zu euch: "Ich bin ein Engel"; ich folge nur dem, was mir offenbart ward.» Sprich: «Können wohl ein Blinder und ein Sehender einander gleichen? Wollt ihr denn nicht nachdenken?»

Spanish

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو کہہ دے کہ میں تمہیں یہ نہیں کہتا کہ میرے پاس اللہ کے خزانے ہیں اور نہ (یہ کہ) میں غیب جانتا ہوں اور نہ میں تمہیں یہ کہتا ہوں کہ میں فرشتہ ہوں۔ میں تو صرف اس کی پیروی کرتا ہوں جو میری طرف الہام کیا گیا ہے۔ تو کہہ دے کہ کیا اندھا اور آنکھوں والا برابر ہو سکتا ہے پھر کیا تم سوچتے نہیں؟

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

ا ے محمدؐ! ان سے کہو، "میں تم سے یہ نہیں کہتا کہ میرے پاس اللہ کے خزانے ہیں نہ میں غیب کا علم رکھتا ہوں، اور نہ یہ کہتا ہوں کہ میں فرشتہ ہوں میں تو صرف اُس وحی کی پیروی کرتا ہوں جو مجھ پر نازل کی جاتی ہے" پھر ان سے پوچھو کیا اندھا اور آنکھوں والا دونوں برابر ہوسکتے ہیں؟ کیا تم غور نہیں کرتے؟

English - Sahih

Say, [O Muhammad], "I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give thought?"

Commentary:
