وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلْءَايَٰتِ وَلِيَقُولُوا۟ دَرَسْتَ وَلِنُبَيِّنَهُۥ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And thus do We vary the Signs that the truth may become established, but the result is that they say, ‘Thou hast learnt well;’ and We vary the Signs that We may explain it to a people who have knowledge.

7:59.

Important Words:

درست (thou hast learnt well) is derived from درس which means, it became effaced, erased or obliterated; or transitively, it effaced, erased or obliterated. درس الثوب means, the cloth became old and worn out. Similarly, درس الثوب means, he rendered the cloth old and worn out. درس الکتاب means, he read the book or he read it repeatedly so as to remember it; or he made it easy to remember by much reading; or he learnt or studied it (Lane).

Commentary:

The verse purports to say, "We have explained Our teachings in various ways with the result that believers have acquired perfect belief in them, while disbelievers have rejected them, saying, 'You have learnt these teachings from Jews and Christians and are now repeating them to us.'" The verb درست (thou hast learnt well) has thus been used here ironically. Taking the transitive meaning of درست the clause would mean that disbelievers reject the teachings, saying: "You have read or recited the signs and teachings you claim to have brought to us and we have heard them. That is enough; do not bother us any more."

In fact, whereas the teachings of the Quran benefit those who accept them, they serve the purpose of establishing the guilt of those who reject them so that they become answerable to God for their rejection.

7:59.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اسی طرح ہم نشانات کو پھیر پھیر کر بیان کرتے ہیں تا کہ وہ کہہ اٹھیں کہ تُو نے خوب سیکھا اور خوب سکھایا اور تاکہ ہم صاحبِ علم لوگوں پر اس (مضمون) کو خوب روشن کر دیں۔

Et c’est ainsi que Nous varions les Signes pour qu’ils disentsans réfléchir : « Tu l’as appris et tu l’as enseigné, » et afin que nous puissions l’expliquer clairement à un peuple qui a de la connaissance.

E così Noi diversifichiamo i segni, in modo che la verità possa affermarsi ma il risultato è che essi dicono: «Tu li hai studiati bene»; e Noi diversifichiamo i segni perché possiamo spiegarli a coloro che possiedono conoscenza.

Así variamos los Signos para que llegue a brillar la verdad, pero el resultado es que llos dicen: “tú has aprendido mucho”; y variamos los Signos para explicarlos a los hombres que tienen conocimiento.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اسی طرح ہم آیتوں کو کئی کئی طرح پھیر پھیر کر لاتے ہیں (تا ان پر حجت ہو جائے) اور تا وہ (یہ) کہدیں کو تونے پڑھ کر (سنا) دیا ہے (اور حجت پوری کر دی ہے) اور تا کہ ہم اسے علم والی قوم (کے فائدہ) کے لئے بیان کر دیں۔

اِس طرح ہم اپنی آیات کو بار بار مختلف طریقوں سے بیان کرتے ہیں اور اس لیے کرتے ہیں کہ یہ لوگ کہیں تم کسی سے پڑھ آئے ہو، اور جو لوگ علم رکھتے ہیں ان پر ہم حقیقت کو روشن کر دیں

English - Sahih

And thus do We diversify the verses so the disbelievers will say, "You have studied," and so We may make the Qur'an clear for a people who know.

اور اسی طرح ہم مختلف طریقوں سے دلائل بیان کرتے ہیں تاکہ وہ کہیں کہ تو نے کسی سے پڑھا ہے اور تاکہ ہم سمجھداروں کے لیے واضح کر دیں
