قَدْ جَآءَكُم بَصَآئِرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَنْ أَبْصَرَ فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَنْ عَمِىَ فَعَلَيْهَا ۚ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ عَلَيْكُم بِحَفِيظٍ

Proofs have indeed come to you from your Lord; so whoever sees, it is for his own good; and whoever becomes blind, it is to his own harm. And I am not a guardian over you.

[a]Proofs have indeed come to you from your Lord; so whoever sees, it is for his own good; and whoever becomes blind, it is to his own harm. And I am not a guardian over you.[847]

7:204.

Commentary:

The word بصائر (proofs) also helps to explain the words, He reaches the eyes, occurring in the preceding verse and signifies that God reveals proofs by means of which man becomes able to know Him. By "proofs" is here meant the divine signs and evidences sent by God.

The words, whoever sees, mean, whoever makes use of his reason after proofs have been revealed to him by God. Similarly the words, whoever becomes blind, refer to such persons as shut their eyes to all truth and virtually make themselves blind.

The duty of the Holy Prophet described in the words, I am not a guardian over you, is only to convey what is revealed by God; it is not his responsibility to compel people to believe in God. Thus, the verse also provides a refutation of the baseless charge that Islam countenances compulsion in the propagation of religion.

[d]Proofs[888] have indeed come to you from your Lord; so whoever sees,[889] it is for his own good; and whoever becomes blind,[890] it is to his own loss. And I am not a guardian[891] over you.

7:204.

Basa’ir (plural of Basirah) means, proofs, arguments, signs, evidences (Lane).

Makes use of reason.

Shuts his eyes to truth and virtually becomes blind.

The duty of a Divine Prophet is confined to conveying what is revealed to him by God. It is not his business to compel people to accept it. Incidentally; the verse constitutes a refutation of the charge that Islam encourages or countenances the use of force for the propagation of its teaching.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

یقیناً تم تک تمہارے ربّ کی طرف سے بہت سی بصیرت کی باتیں پہنچ چکی ہیں۔ پس جو بصیرت حاصل کرے تو خود اپنے ہی نفس کے لئے کرے گا اور جو اندھا رہے تو اُسی (نفس) کے (مفاد کے) خلاف اندھا رہے گا اور میں تم پر محافظ نہیں ہوں۔

En vérité, des preuves manifestes vous sont venues de votre Seigneur ; alors celui qui voit clair, ce sera à son avantage ; et celui qui demeure aveugle, ce sera à son détriment. Et je ne suis pas là pour vous surveiller.

German

Sichtbare Beweise sind euch nunmehr gekommen von eurem Herrn; wer also sieht, es ist zu seinem eigenen Besten; und wer blind wird, es ist zu seinem eigenen Schaden. Und ich bin nicht ein Wächter über euch.

بَصَائِرْ (Basa’ir) 是 بَصِيْرَةْ (Basirah) 的复数, 其意思是, 证明、论证、迹象、明证 (Lane)。

Invero vi sono state date prove dal vostro Signore. Sicché, chiunque veda, sarà per il suo stesso bene. E chiunque diventi cieco, sarà peggio per lui. E io non sono un custode su di voi.

Spanish

Ciertamente os ha llegado una luz manifiesta de vuestro Señor; por tanto, quien la ve lo hace para su propio bien; pero quien se ciega lo hace para su propio perjuicio. Pues yo no soy vuestro guardián.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تمہارے رب کی طرف سے دلائل آچکے ہیں پس جس نے (انہیں) جان لیا (اس کا یہ فعل) اس کے اپنے (فائدہ کے) لئے ہوگا اور جس نے کجراہی (اختیار) کی (اس کا یہ فعل) اسی پر پڑے گا اور میں تو تمہارا محافظ[2] نہیں ہوں۔

یعنی تم کو نافرمانی کی وجہ سے جو عذاب آئے اس سے بچا نہیں سکتا۔ یا بدیوں سے زبردستی بچا نہیں سکتا۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

دیکھو، تمہارے پاس تمہارے رب کی طرف سے بصیرت کی روشنیاں آ گئی ہیں، اب جو بینائی سے کام لے گا اپنا ہی بھلا کرے گا اور جو اندھا بنے گا خود نقصان اٹھائے گا، میں تم پر کوئی پاسبان نہیں ہوں

English - Sahih

There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], "I am not a guardian over you."

تحقیق تمہارے ہاں تمہارے رب کی طرف سے نشانیاں آ چکی ہیں پھر جس نے دیکھ لیا تو خود ہی نفع اٹھایا اور جو اندھا رہا سو اپنا نقصان کیا اور میں تمہارا نگہبان نہیں ہوں

Verily, has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. Then whoever sees, then (it is) for his soul, and whoever (is) blind then (it is) against himself. And not (am) I over you a guardian.
