وَلَوْلَآ أَن كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْجَلَآءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ عَذَابُ ٱلنَّارِ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And had it not been that Allah had decreed exile for them, He would have surely punished them otherwise in this world. And in the Hereafter they will certainly have the punishment of the Fire.

And had it not been that Allah had decreed exile for them, He would have surely punished them otherwise in this world. And in the Hereafter they will certainly have the punishment of the Fire.[4191]

Important Words:

الجلاء (the banishment) is derived from جلا (jala). They say جلا عن بلدہ i.e. he migrated from his home. جلا عنه الھم means, he removed the grief from him or banished him. أجلاہ means he exiled (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

The verse means that by their persistent evil designs and treachery the Jews of Medina, particularly the Banu Nadir, had incurred God’s wrath. Their exile from Medina was a very light punishment. They had deserved a much heavier punishment, and had they not been exiled they would have been severely punished in some other form.

English - Short Commentary Translation

And had it not been that Allah had decreed exile for them, He would have, surely, punished them otherwise in this world.[3019] And in the Hereafter they will, certainly, have the punishment of the Fire.

The exile of the Banu Nadir from Medina was a very light punishment. They deserved a much heavier punishment, and had they not been exiled they would have been severely punished in some other way.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اگر اللہ نے اُن کےلئے جلاوطنی مقدّر نہ کر رکھی ہوتی تو انہیں اسی دنیا میں عذاب دیتا جبکہ آخرت میں اُن کےلئے (بہرحال) آگ کا عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

French

Et n’eût été le fait qu’Allāh avait décrété le bannissement pour eux, Il les aurait assurément punis d’une autre façon dans ce monde. Et dans l’au-delà, ils auront le châtiment du Feu.

Und wäre es nicht so gewesen, dass Allah für sie Verbannung angeordnet hatte, Er hätte sie sicherlich hienieden bestraft, und im Jenseits wird ihnen die Strafe des Feuers.

如果安拉没有为他们做了放逐的决定, 那么, 他一定在今世 (其他方面) 惩罚他们。而在后世, 他们必将遭受火刑。

Mas si Dios no hubiese decretado el exilio para ellos, les habría castigado ciertamente de otro modo en este mundo. Y en el Más Allá tendrán ciertamente el castigo del Fuego.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اگر اللہ نے ان پر جلا وطنی[3] فرض نہ کر رکھی ہوتی تو ان کو اس دنیا میں بھی عذاب دیتا اور آخرت میں ان کے لئے دوزخ کا عذاب مقرر ہے۔

بائبل میں ذکر ہے کہ یہود ایک موقعہ پر جلا وطن بھی کیے جائیں گے۔ (یسعیاہ باب۲۳ آیت۱۷۔ ۱۸)

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اگر اللہ نے اُن کے حق میں جلا وطنی نہ لکھ دی ہوتی تو دنیا ہی میں وہ انہیں عذاب دے ڈالتا، اور آخرت میں تو ان کے لیے دوزخ کا عذاب ہے ہی

English - Sahih

And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.

اوراگر الله نے ان کے لیے دیس نکالا نہ لکھ دیا ہوتا تو انہیں دنیا ہی میں سزا دیتا اور آخرت میں تو ان کے لیے آگ کا عذاب ہے

English - Talal Itani

And if not [that] (had) decreed Allah for them the exile, certainly He (would) have punished them in the world, and for them in the Hereafter (is) a punishment (of) the Fire.

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

بائبل میں ذکر ہے کہ یہود ایک موقعہ پر جلا وطن بھی کیے جائیں گے۔ (یسعیاہ باب۲۳ آیت۱۷۔ ۱۸)

English - Arberry

Had God not prescribed dispersal for them, He would have chastised them in this world; and there awaits them in the world to come the chastisement of the Fire.

English - Maududi

If Allah had not decreed banishment for them, He would certainly have chastised them in this world. As for the Hereafter, the chastisement of the Fire awaits them.

Had God not decreed the expulsion for them He would have punished them in this world, and in the next the punishment of Hell would have been theirs.
