English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Those who shun the grave sins and immoral actions except minor faults — verily, thy Lord is very liberal in forgiving. He knows you full well from the time when He created you from the earth, and when you were embryos in the bellies of your mothers. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows him best who is truly righteous.

Those who shun the grave sins and immoral actions except minor faults[c]—verily, thy Lord is Master of vast forgiveness.[d] He knows you full well from the time when He created you from the earth, and when you were embryos in the bellies of your mothers. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows him best who is truly righteous.[3988]

Those who [a]shun the grave sins and all indecencies except minor faults.[2885] Verily, thy Lord is Master of vast forgiveness. [b]He knows you well from the time when He created you from the earth, and when you were embryos in the bellies of your mothers. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows him best who is truly righteous.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

(یہ اچھے عمل والے) وہ لوگ ہیں جو سوائے سرسری لغزش کے بڑے گناہوں اور فواحش سے بچتے ہیں۔ یقیناً تیرا رب وسیع بخشش والا ہے۔ وہ تمہیں سب سے زیادہ جانتا تھا جب اس نے زمین سے تمہاری نشوونما کی اور جب تم اپنی ماؤں کے پیٹوں میں محض جنین تھے۔ پس اپنے آپ کو (یونہی) پاک نہ ٹھہرایا کرو۔ وہی ہے جو سب سے زیادہ جانتا ہے کہ متقی کون ہے۔

French

Ceux qui fuient les péchés graves et toutes les indécences sauf les fautes légères – en vérité, ton Seigneur est Prodigue de Son pardon. Il vous connaît mieux que quiconque quand Il vous a créés de la terre, et aussi quand vous n’étiez que des embryons dans le ventre de votre mère. Ne vous attribuez donc pas la pureté. Il connaît le mieux celui qui est vraiment pieux.

jene, die die schlimmsten Sünden und Schändlichkeiten meiden, bis auf leichte Vergehen – wahrlich, deines Herrn Verzeihung ist weitumfassend. Er kennt euch sehr wohl (von der Zeit her), da Er euch aus der Erde hervorbrachte und da ihr Keimlinge wart in eurer Mütter Schoß. Drum erklärt euch nicht selber als rein. Ihm ist am besten kund, wer sich vor Bösem hütet.

Italian

quelli che evitano i peccati maggiori e le indecenze, ad eccezione di mancanze minori. In verità il tuo Signore dispone di grande capacità di perdono. Egli vi conosce bene dal tempo in cui vi ha creati dalla terra, e da quando non eravate che embrioni nel grembo di vostra madre. Non dite dunque di essere puri. Egli conosce al meglio chi è veramente giusto.

Spanish

Quienes se abstienen de los pecados mayores y de la indecencia, -salvo los errores menores-; en verdad, tu Señor es generoso en la indulgencia. Él os conoce muy bien desde el momento en que os creó de la tierra y cuando erais embriones en los vientres de vuestras madres. No os adjudiquéis, pues, la pureza a vosotros mismos. Él sabe mejor que nadie quién es el verdaderamente justo.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(یعنی) ایسے لوگ جو بڑے بڑے گناہوں اور کھلی بدکاریوں سے بچتے رہتے ہیں مگر یہ کہ ذرا سا (گناہ کو) چھو جائیں (پھر پچھتانے لگیں) تیرا رب بڑی وسیع مغفرت والا ہے۔ وہ اس وقت سے تم کو خوب جانتا ہے جب اس نے تم کو زمین میں پیدا کیا اور جبکہ تم اپنی ماؤں کے پیٹ میں پوشیدہ تھے۔ پس اپنی جانوں کو پاک مت قرار دو۔ متقیوں کو اللہ ہی خوب جانتا ہے۔

جو بڑے بڑے گناہوں اور کھلے کھلے قبیح افعال سے پرہیز کرتے ہیں، الا یہ کہ کچھ قصور اُن سے سرزد ہو جائے بلاشبہ تیرے رب کا دامن مغفرت بہت وسیع ہے وہ تمھیں اُس وقت سے خوب جانتا ہے جب اُس نے زمین سے تمہیں پیدا کیا اور جب تم اپنی ماؤں کے پیٹوں میں ابھی جنین ہی تھے پس اپنے نفس کی پاکی کے دعوے نہ کرو، وہی بہتر جانتا ہے کہ واقعی متقی کون ہے

English - Sahih

Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.

وہ جو بڑے گناہوں اور بے حیائی کی باتوں سے بچتے ہیں مگر صغیرہ گناہوں سے بے شک آپ کا رب بڑی وسیع بخشش والا ہے وہ تمہیں خوب جانتا ہے جب کہ تمہیں زمین سے پیدا کیا تھا اور جب کہ تم اپنی ماں کے پیٹ میں بچے تھے پس اپنے آپ کو پاک نہ سمجھو وہ پرہیزگار کو خوب جانتا ہے

Those who avoid the heinous sins and indecencies, save lesser offences surely thy Lord is wide in His forgiveness. Very well He knows you, when He produced you from the earth, and when you were yet unborn in your mothers' wombs; therefore hold not yourselves purified; God knows very well him who is godfearing.

on those who avoid grave sins and shameful deeds, even if they may sometimes stumble into lesser offences. Surely your Lord is abounding in His Forgiveness. Very well is He aware of you since He produced you from the earth, and while you were still in your mothers' wombs and not yet born. So do not boastfully claim yourselves to be purified. He fully knows those that are truly Godfearing.

Important Words:

اللمم (minor faults) is derived from لم. They say ألم بالقوم او علی المقوم i.e. he came to the people and alighted at their abode temporarily as a guest. ألممت بکذا means, I appreciated it without committing it. ألم also means, he visited covertly or in a light, slight or hasty manner or rarely. لمم means, a chance leaning towards evil; a temporary and light lapse; a rare slight offence, a passing evil idea which flashes across the mind and leaves no impression on it. The root word possesses the sense of temporariness, haste and infrequency and of doing a thing unintentionally. A chance, unintentional look at a woman has also been called اللمم by some authorities (Lane & Aqrab).
