لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

‘Thou wast heedless of this; now We have removed from thee thy veil, and sharp is thy sight this day.’

English - Five Volume Translation

Then We shall say, ‘Thou wast heedless of this; now We have removed from thee thy veil, and sharp is thy sight this day.’[3874]

Important Words:

بصر (eye) means, eye; the light whereby the organ of sight perceives the things; knowledge; discernment; intelligence (Lane & Aqrab).

حدید (sharp) is derived from حد which means, he turned away or averted a person from a thing. حد شیئا عن غیرہ means, he distinguished or separated by some mark a thing from another. حد السکین means, he sharpened the knife. حد بصرہ الیه means, he looked sharply or attentively at him. رجل حدید means, a man sharp of intellect or understanding (Lane).

Commentary:

The verse means that in the next world the veil will be lifted from the eyes of man and his vision and mental perception will become clearer and sharper. He will see the consequences of his actions in an embodied form which were hidden from his eyes in this world and will realize that which he used to regard merely as an illusion, was a hard and stark reality.

English - Short Commentary Translation

Then We shall say, ‘Thou wast heedless of this; now We have removed from thee thy veil, and keen is thy sight this day.’[2808]

In the next world the veil will be lifted from the eyes of man and his vision and mental perception will become clearer and sharper. He will see the consequences of his actions in an embodied form which were hidden from his eyes in this world and will realize that, which he used to regard merely as an illusion, was a hard and stark reality.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

یقیناً تُو اس بارہ میں غفلت میں رہا۔ پس ہم نے تجھ سے تیرا پردہ اٹھا دیا اور آج تیری نظر بہت تیز ہوگئی ہے۔

»Tu en étais insouciant ; maintenant Nous t’avons ôté ton voile, et aujourd’hui ta vue est perçante. »

Du warst dessen achtlos; nun haben Wir deinen Schleier von dir genommen, und scharf ist dein Blick heute.

(我将说:) “你对这 (一天) 原是不注意的; 现在我已为你除去了遮掩, 所以今天你的眼光是敏锐的。”

Italian

Allora Noi diremo: «Sei stato incurante di questo. Ora abbiamo rimosso da te il velo, e la tua vista oggi è acuta.»

Spanish

“Te hallabas descuidado respecto a esto; mas ahora te hemos retirado el velo, y tu vista es penetrante en este día”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(اور ہم کہیں گے) تو اس (دن) سے غفلت میں پڑا ہوا تھا سو آخر[2] ہم نے تیرا پردہ اٹھا دیا۔ اور آج کے دن تیری نظر بڑی تیز ہے (اور[3] تو سب کچھ دیکھ رہا ہے)۔

یعنی آج تو اپنے سب عیب و صواب کو اچھی طرح سمجھ رہا ہے اور وہ دنیوی حالت بھول گیا ہے جبکہ اپنے ہر قول و فعل کے اچھے ہونے پر اصرار کرتا تھا۔

یعنی اس کے ساتھ لگا ہوا گواہ۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اِس چیز کی طرف سے تو غفلت میں تھا، ہم نے وہ پردہ ہٹا دیا جو تیرے آگے پڑا ہوا تھا اور آج تیری نگاہ خوب تیز ہے

English - Sahih

[It will be said], "You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight, this Day, is sharp."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

بے شک تو تو اس دن سے غفلت میں رہا پس ہم نے تجھ سے تیرا پردہ دور کر دیا پس تیری نگاہ آج بڑی تیز ہے

"Certainly you were in heedlessness of this. So We have removed from you your cover, so your sight today (is) sharp."

Chinese Commentary ^*

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

یعنی اس کے ساتھ لگا ہوا گواہ۔

'Thou wast heedless of this; therefore We have now removed from thee thy covering, and so thy sight today is piercing.'

English - Maududi

You were heedless of this. Now We have removed your veil and so your vision today is sharp.

(And the driver will say:) "You were oblivious of this, so we have removed the veil, and how keen is your sight today!"
