وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَآ إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنصِتُوا۟ ۖ فَلَمَّا قُضِىَ وَلَّوْا۟ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And remember when We turned towards thee a party of the Jinn who wished to hear the Qur’an and, when they were present at its recitation, they said to one another, ‘Be silent and listen,’ and, when it was finished, they went back to their people, warning them.

And remember when [a]We turned towards thee a party of the jinn who wished to hear the Quran and, when they were present at its recitation, they said to one another, ‘Be silent and listen,’ and, when it was finished, they went back to their people, warning them.[3783]

72:2.

Important Words:

نفراً (a party) is derived from نفر (nafara) which means, he ran away at random; he broke loose and went hither and thither; he became separated and returned to a distance. نفر (nafarun) means, a number of men from three to ten or less than ten; a man’s people or tribe consisting of his near relations (Lane).

Commentary:

The party of men referred to in the verse were the Jews of Nusaybin or, as some say, from Mosul or Nineveh in Iraq. Being apprehensive of the Meccans’ opposition, they met the Holy Prophet at night and after listening to the Quran and to the Holy Prophet’s discourse, they converted to Islam and carried the new Message to their people who also readily accepted it. The next verse leaves no doubt that they were Jews and seemed to be the leaders of their people (Bayan, vol. 8). See also 72:2.

And call to mind when [b]We turned towards thee a party of the jinn[2733] who wished to hear the Qur’an and, when they were present at its recitation, they said to one another, ‘Be silent and listen,’ and when it was finished, they went back to their people, warning them.

72:2.

The party of jinn referred to in this verse were the Jews of Nasibain, or, as some say, of Mosul or Nineveh in Iraq. اور جب ہم نے جنوں میں سے ایک جماعت کا رُخ تیری طرف پھیر دیا جو قرآن سنا کرتے تھے۔ جب وہ اُس کے حضور حاضر ہوئے تو انہوں نے کہا خاموش ہو جاؤ۔ پھر جب بات ختم ہوگئی تو اپنی قوم کی طرف انذار کرتے ہوئے لَوٹ گئے۔

Et souviens-toi quand Nous avons envoyé vers toi un groupe de djinns, qui voulaient entendre réciter le Coran, et quand ils furent présents à sa récitation, ils se dirent entre eux : « Demeurez silencieux et écoutez, » et quand ce fut terminé, ils retournèrent auprès de leur peuple, en avertisseurs.

72:2.

Acuérdate de cuando dirigimos hacia ti un grupo de los inn que deseaba oír el Corán y, cuando estaban presentes en surecitación, se dijeron mutuamente: “Estad en silencio y escuchad” y, cuando terminó, volvieron a sus gentes, advirtiéndoles.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور جب ہم جنّوں میں سے کچھ لوگوں کو تیری طرف پھیر[1] کر لے آئے جو قرآن سننے کی خواہش رکھتے تھے۔ پس جب وہ (مجلس قرآن خوانی میں) حاضر ہوئے تو انہوں نے ایک دوسرے سے کہا چپ ہو جاؤ۔ پھر جب قرآن کی تلاوت ختم ہو گئی تو وہ اپنی قوم کی طرف واپس چلے گئے اور ان میں جاکر اسلام کی اشاعت شروع کر دی۔

اس آیت میں جِنّ کا لفظ استعارۃً ایک یہودی وفد کے لئے بولا گیا ہے جو رسول کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خبر سن کر پوشیدہ طور پر آپ سے ملنے آیا تھا اور نصیبین واقعہ عراق کا رہنے والا تھا۔ وہ لوگ چونکہ دور سے آئے تھے۔ چُھپ کر رسول کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ملے تا کہ ان کی قوم اور عرب کے لوگ دشمن نہ ہو جائیں (فتح البیان جلد۸ ص۳۵۵)

(اور وہ واقعہ بھی قابل ذکر ہے) جب ہم جنوں کے ایک گروہ کو تمہاری طرف لے آئے تھے تاکہ قرآن سنیں جب وہ اُس جگہ پہنچے (جہاں تم قرآن پڑھ رہے تھے) تو انہوں نے آپس میں کہا خاموش ہو جاؤ پھر جب وہ پڑھا جا چکا تو وہ خبردار کرنے والے بن کر اپنی قوم کی طرف پلٹے

English - Sahih

And [mention, O Muhammad], when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Qur'an. And when they attended it, they said, "Listen quietly." And when it was concluded, they went back to their people as warners.

اورجب ہم نے آپ کی طرف چند ایک جنوں کو پھیر دیا جو قرآن سن رہے تھے پس جب وہ آپ کے پاس حاصر ہوئے تو کہنے لگے چپ رہو پھر جب ختم ہوا تو اپنی قوم کی طرف واپس لوٹے ایسے حال میں کہ وہ ڈرانے والے تھے

And when We turned to thee a company of jinn giving ear to the Koran; and when they were in its presence they said, 'Be silent!' Then, when it was finished, they turned back to their people, warning.
