اللہ نے بہترین بیان ایک ملتی جلتی (اور) بار بار دُہرائی جانے والی کتاب کی صورت میں اتارا ہے۔ جس سے ان لوگوں کی جِلدیں جو اپنے ربّ کا خوف رکھتے ہیں لرزنے لگتی ہیں پھر ان کی جِلدیں اور ان کے دل اللہ کے ذکر کی طرف (مائل ہوتے ہوئے) نرم پڑ جاتے ہیں۔ یہ اللہ کی ہدایت ہے، وہ اس کے ذریعہ جسے چاہتا ہے ہدایت دیتا ہے اور جسے اللہ گمراہ ٹھہرا دے تو اُسے کوئی ہدایت دینے والا نہیں۔

French

Allāh a révélé le meilleur Message sous la forme d’un Livre, dont les versets se supportent mutuellement, et sont répétés sous diverses formes. La récitation de ce Livre fait frissonner ceux qui craignent leur Seigneur ; ensuite leur peau et leur cœur s’adoucissent au souvenir d’Allāh. Telle est la direction d’Allāh ; c’est par cela qu’Il guide qui Il veut. Et celui qu’Allāh juge égaré – il n’aura aucun guide.

Allah hat die schönste Botschaft, ein Buch, hinabgesandt, ein im Einklang (mit anderen Schriften) stehendes*, oft wiederholtes, vor dem denen, die ihren Herrn fürchten, die Haut erschauert, dann erweicht sich ihre Haut und ihr Herz zum Gedenken, Allahs. Das ist die Führung Allahs; Er leitet damit, wen Er will. Und wen Allah zum Irrenden erklärt, der soll keinen Führer haben.

Allah ha fatto scendere il miglior messaggio in forma di un libro i cui versi si comprovano a vicenda, ripetuti in forme diverse, così che le pelli di coloro che temono il loro Signore fremano quando è recitato; poi le loro pelli e i loro cuori s'inteneriscono al ricordo di Allah. Tale è la guida di Allah. Egli guida con esso chi Gli piace; e colui che Allah condanna a fuorviare, non avrà una guida.

Al‑lah ha revelado el mejor Mensaje en forma de un libro,cuyos versículos se apoyan mutuamente, y se repiten en diversas formas. Ante él se estremece la piel de quienes temen a su Señor. Después su piel y sus corazones se ablandan ante el recuerdo de Al‑lah; Así es la guía de Al‑lah; con ella encamina a quien Le agrada. Mas a quien Al‑lah sentencia como extraviado... no tendrá guía alguna.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اللہ وہ ہے جس نے بہتر سے بہتر بات یعنی وہ کتاب اتاری ہے‘ جو متشابہ[1] بھی ہے۔ اور اس کے مضمون نہایت [2]اعلیٰ[3] ہیں۔ جو لوگ اپنے رب سے ڈرتے ہیں ان کے جسموں کے رونگٹے اس کے پڑھنے سے کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں۔ پھر ان کے چمڑے اور دل نرم ہو کر اللہ کے ذکر کی طرف جھک جاتے ہیں۔ یہ (قرآن) اللہ کی ہدایت ہے (یعنی قرآن جس ہدایت کا مالک ہے وہ اللہ کی ہدایت ہے) جس کے ذریعہ سے وہ جس کو چاہتا ہے ہدایت دیتا ہے اور جس کو اللہ گمراہ قرار دے دے اس کو کوئی ہدایت نہیں دے سکتا۔

اللہ نے بہترین کلام اتارا ہے، ایک ایسی کتاب جس کے تمام اجزاء ہم رنگ ہیں اور جس میں بار بار مضامین دہرائے گئے ہیں اُسے سن کر اُن لوگوں کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں جو اپنے رب سے ڈرنے والے ہیں، اور پھر ان کے جسم اور ان کے دل نرم ہو کر اللہ کے ذکر کی طرف راغب ہو جاتے ہیں یہ اللہ کی ہدایت ہے جس سے وہ راہ راست پر لے آتا ہے جسے چاہتا ہے اور جسے اللہ ہی ہدایت نہ دے اس کے لیے پھر کوئی ہادی نہیں ہے

Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.

الله ہی نے بہترین کلام نال کیا ہے یعنی کتاب باہم ملتی جلتی ہے (اس کی آیات) دہرائی جاتی ہیں جس سے خدا ترس لوگوں کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں پھر ان کی کھالیں نرم ہوجاتی ہیں اور دل یاد الہیٰ کی طرف راغب ہوتے ہیں یہی الله کی ہدایت ہے اس کے ذریعے سے جسے چاہے راہ پر لے آتا ہے اور جسے الله گمراہ کر دے اسے راہ پر لانے والا کوئی نہیں

God has sent down the fairest discourse as a Book, consimilar in its oft-repeated, whereat shiver the skins of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts soften to the remembrance of God. That is God's guidance, whereby. He guides whomsoever He will; and whomsoever God leads astray, no guide has he.

Important Words:

متشابھا (mutually supporting) is derived from شبه. They say شبھه به i.e. he made it to be like that; he likened it to that. See also 3:8.

مثانی (repeated in diverse forms) is derived from ثنی. They say ثناہ i.e. he doubled it, or folded it. ثناہ (thanna-hu) means, he made it two or called it two; he repeated it (Lane & Aqrab). See also 15:88.

تقشعر (creep) is aorist from اقشعر which means, he or it quaked, shuddered or tumbled; it (the skin) dried up. اقشعر الشعرmeans, the hair stood upon end on account of fear or cold. They say أخذته قشعریرة i.e. a tremor of the skin seized him (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

The Quran is the last heavenly Message. Divine revelation has found completest and most perfect expression in it. In the verse under comment the Quran has been described as کتابا متشابھا which means that it is a Book which is susceptible of different interpretations but these interpretations are consistent and support each other. There is no contradiction or inconsistency anywhere in the Quran. This constitutes one of its inimitable excellences. Another excellence of the Quran lies in the fact that it has made extensive use of metaphors, allegories and parables. This greatly adds to the beauty and grace of its style and assures vastness of meaning in the fewest possible words. Again, the Quran is called مثانی which signifies that it describes its basic beliefs and principles repeatedly and in various ways and forms, in order to emphasize their importance, necessity and purpose.

The word also signifies that some of the teachings of the Quran resemble those of other revealed Scriptures and some are new and unapproachable and incomparable in their excellences and beauties.
