قَالَ مَعَاذَ ٱللَّهِ أَن نَّأْخُذَ إِلَّا مَن وَجَدْنَا مَتَٰعَنَا عِندَهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّظَٰلِمُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

He replied, ‘Allah forbid that we should take any save him with whom we found our property; for then we should certainly be unjust.’

He replied, ‘God forbid that we should take any save him with whom we found our property; for then we should certainly be unjust.’[1579]

Commentary:

This verse constitutes a strong refutation of the Christian doctrine of Atonement. Joseph said that it would be an act of injustice on his part to detain an innocent person in place of a guilty one although Joseph’s brethren had voluntarily offered to suffer for Benjamin. The Bible also supports this refutation, for it says that when Benjamin’s brethren offered to be taken as servants in place of Benjamin, Joseph said, "God forbid that I do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father." (Gen. 44:17). In the face of such clear repudiation by the Bible of one person atoning for the sins of another, how could the sufferings of Jesus atone for the sins of his followers?

English - Short Commentary Translation

He replied, ‘Allah forbid that we should take any other but him with whom we have found our property; for then we should certainly be unjust.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اس نے کہا اللہ کی پناہ! کہ جس کے پاس ہم اپنا سامان پائیں اس کے سوا کسی اور کو پکڑیں۔ تب تو ہم یقیناً ظلم کرنے والے بن جائیں گے۔

French

Il répondit : « Allāh interdit que nous prenions qui que ce soit d’autre que celui avec qui nous avons trouvé notre bien ; car alors nous serons certainement injustes. »

German

Er antwortete: "Allah behüte, dass wir einen anderen nehmen sollten als den, bei dem wir unser Eigentum gefunden haben; wir wären sonst wahrlich ungerecht."

他 (回答) 说: “愿安拉防止我们拘留别人而代替那个人: 在他那里我们发现我们的所有物; 否则, 我们必将是不义的。”

Italian

Egli replicò: «Allah ci guardi dal prendere chiunque altro, tranne quello che abbiamo trovato in possesso di roba nostra; altrimenti saremmo davvero ingiusti.»

Spanish

Él respondió: “Al-lah prohibe que tomemos a nadie salvo a aquel en quien encontramos nuestra propiedad; porque de otra manera seríamos ciertamente injustos”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اس نے کہا (کہ ہم) اس شخص کے سوا جس کے پاس ہم نے اپنا سامان پایا ہے کسی اور کو پکڑنے سے خدا کی پناہ چاہتے ہیں اگر ہم ایسا کریں تو ہم یقیناً ظالموں میں سے ہوں گے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

یوسفؑ نے کہا "پناہ بخدا، دوسرے کسی شخص کو ہم کیسے رکھ سکتے ہیں جس کے پاس ہم نے اپنا مال پایا ہے اس کو چھوڑ کر دوسرے کو رکھیں گے تو ہم ظالم ہوں گے"

English - Sahih

He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah [to prevent] that we take except him with whom we found our possession. Indeed, we would then be unjust."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کہا الله کی پناہ کہ ہم بجز اس کے جس کے پاس اپنا اسباب پایا کسی اور کو پکڑیں تب تو ہم بڑے ظالم ہیں

He said, "Allah forbid that we take except (one) who, we found our possession with him. Indeed, we then surely (would be) wrongdoers."

Joseph said: "Allah forbid that we should seize any except him with whom we found our good. Were we to do so, we would surely be one of the wrong-doers."

"May God forgive us," he said, "if we hold any one but him with whom we found our property, or else we would be unjust."
