13:41

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And whether We make thee see the fulfilment of some of the things with which We threaten them or whether We make thee die, it makes little difference, for on thee lies only the delivery of the Message, and on Us the reckoning.

10:47; 40:78.

3:21; 5:93; 16:83.

English - Short Commentary Translation

And [f]whether We show thee in thy life-time the fulfilment of some of the things with which We threaten them or whether We cause thee to die, it makes little difference, for [g]on thee lies only the delivery of the Message, and on Us the reckoning.

10:47; 40:78.

3:21; 5:93; 16:83.

English - Five Volume Translation

And [a]whether We make thee see the fulfilment of some of the things with which We threaten them or whether We make thee die, it makes little difference, for [b]on thee lies only the delivery of the Message, and on Us the reckoning.[1651]

10:47; 40:78.

21:45.

Commentary:

The verse purports to say that when the object of signs of punishment is the reformation and reclamation of the people, the postponement or cancellation of some of them cannot reasonably be criticized. The real object of the advent of the Prophets is to deliver the Divine Message to men, and the fulfilment or postponement or revocation of a prophecy is only a secondary thing, being subordinate to this supreme purpose. It should, therefore, occasion no surprise if, in harmony with the fulfilment of this purpose and of the Divine decree, a prophecy is cancelled or revoked, particularly when all people have to appear before God on the Day of Reckoning when the whole truth will come to light. This verse is important inasmuch as it lays down a fundamental divine principle about signs of punishment. To think that as signs of punishment proceed from God they must always happen as foretold is simply absurd and, besides clashing with the Divine attribute of mercy, belies the very purpose for which Prophets of God are raised.

English - Sahih

And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.

English - Talal Itani

And whether (what) We show you a part (of) what We have promised them or We cause you to die, so only on you (is) the conveyance, and on Us (is) the reckoning.

English - Arberry

Whether We show thee a part of that We promise them, or We call thee to Us, it is thine only to deliver the Message, and Ours the reckoning.

English - Maududi

(O Prophet), whether We make you see a part of the punishment that We have threatened them with come to pass during your life-time, or We take you away before that happens, your duty is no more than to convey the Message, and it is for Us to make a reckoning.

English - Ahmed Ali

Whether We allow you to see (the punishment) We have promised them, or end your life before (its execution), it is certainly for you to convey the message; the reckoning is for Us to do.

English - Yusuf Ali

Whether We shall show thee (within thy life-time) part of what we promised them or take to ourselves thy soul (before it is all accomplished),- thy duty is to make (the Message) reach them: it is our part to call them to account.

English - Sir Muhammad Zafrullah Khan ^ra

Whether We bring to pass during thy lifetime some of that which We have designed for them, or whether We cause thee to die, it will all be fulfilled. Thy part is to convey the Message; it is for Us to make the reckoning.
