72:12

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

‘And some of us are righteous and some of us are otherwise; and we are sects holding different views.

And some of us are righteous and some of us are otherwise; and we are sects following different paths.[4405]

Important Words:

قددا (sects following different paths) is the plural of قدة (qiddatun) which is derived from قد. They say قدہ i.e. he cut it or cut it entirely, rent it. قدر means, pieces of a thing; parties, divisions, sects or distinct bodies or classes of men, holding particular tenets or body of tenets, creeds, opinions. صار القوم قددا means, the people became divided into their states or conditions and their desires or erroneous opinions (Lane & Aqrab).

‘And some of us are righteous and some of us are otherwise—we are sects following different paths,

اور یقیناً ہم میں کچھ نیک لوگ تھے اور کچھ ہم میں سے ان کے علاوہ بھی تھے۔ ہم طرح طرح کے مسلکوں میں بٹے ہوئے تھے۔

Et certains d’entre nous sont pieux, et certains d’entre nous ne le sont pas ; et nous nous trouvons divisés en sectes, ayant des opinions divergentes.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہم میں سے کچھ نیک لوگ بھی ہیں اور کچھ اس کے خلاف بھی ہیں ہم مختلف راستوں پر جا رہے تھے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور یہ کہ "ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ صالح ہیں اور کچھ اس سے فروتر ہیں، ہم مختلف طریقوں میں بٹے ہوئے ہیں"

And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

اور کچھ تو ہم میں سے نیک ہیں اور کچھ اور طرح کے ہم بھی مختلف طریقوں پر تھے
