يَقُولُونَ لَئِن رَّجَعْنَآ إِلَى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ ٱلْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا ٱلْأَذَلَّ ۚ وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

They say, ‘If we return to Medina, the one most honourable will surely drive out therefrom the one most mean;’ while true honour belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and the believers; but the hypocrites know not.

English - Five Volume Translation

They say, ‘If we return to Medinah, the one most exalted will surely drive out therefrom the one most mean,’ while true honour belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and the believers; but the Hypocrites know not.[4250]

Commentary:

In the course of a campaign, (probably the one against Banu Mustaliq) ‘Abdullah bin Ubayy, leader of the hypocrites of Medina, is reported to have said that on his return he, "the most honourable of the inhabitants of Medina," would drive out therefrom "the meanest of them," meaning thereby that he would drive out of Medina the Holy Prophet, along with the entire band of his followers. ‘Abdullah bin Ubayy was bitterly hostile to the Holy Prophet because his hopes of becoming the Chief of Medina were shattered by the Holy Prophet’s arrival on the scene. ‘Abdullah’s son heard of this vile boast of his father, and as the party returned to Medina, he drew his sword and barred his father’s entry into the town till he had confessed and declared that he himself was the meanest of the citizens of Medina and the Holy Prophet the most honourable of them. Thus his boast recoiled on his own head.

English - Short Commentary Translation

They say, ‘If we return to Medina, the one most exalted will, surely, drive out therefrom the one most mean,’[3053] while true honour belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and the believers; but the Hypocrites know not.

In the course of a campaign (probably the one against Banu Mustaliq) ‘Abdullah bin Ubayy, leader of the Medina Hypocrites whose fond expectations to become the Chief of Medina were shattered by the Holy Prophet’s arrival on the scene is reported to have said that on his return to Medina he, 'the most honourable of its inhabitants' meaning himself would drive out therefrom 'the meanest of them,' meaning the Holy Prophet. ‘Abdullah’s son heard of this vile boast of his father, and as the party reached Medina, he drew his sword and barred his father’s entry into the town until he had confessed and declared that he himself was the meanest of the citizens of Medina and the Holy Prophet the most honourable of them. Thus his boast recoiled on his head.

وہ کہتے ہیں اگر ہم مدینہ کی طرف لوٹیں گے تو ضرور وہ جو سب سے زیادہ معزز ہے اُسے جو سب سے زیادہ ذلیل ہے اس میں سے نکال باہر کرے گا۔ حالانکہ عزت تمام تر اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی ہے اور مومنوں کی، لیکن منافق لوگ جانتے نہیں۔

Ils disent : « Si nous retournons à Médine, le plus honorable en chassera assurément le plus méprisable ; » alors que l’honneur réel appartient à Allāh et à Son Messager et aux croyants ; mais les hypocrites ne savent pas.

Sie sprechen: "Wenn wir nach Medina zurückkehren, dann wird der Angesehenste sicherlich den Geringsten daraus vertreiben", obwohl das Ansehen nur Allah und Seinem Gesandten und den Gläubigen gebührt; allein die Heuchler wissen es nicht.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

وہ کہتے ہیں کہ اگر ہم مدینہ کی طرف لوٹ کر گئے تو جو مدینہ کا سب سے معزز آدمی ہے وہ مدینہ کے سب سے ذلیل[1] آدمی کو اس سے نکال دے گا۔ اور عزت اللہ اور اس کے رسول اور مومنوں کو ہی حاصل ہے لیکن منافق جانتے نہیں۔

عبداللہ ابن اُبَیّ ابن سَلُول نے جو منافقوں کا سردار تھا غزوہ ٔ مصطلق کے موقعہ پر مسلمانوں کو لڑوانے کے لئے یہ کہا تھا مگر اس کے بیٹے کو جو مخلص مومن تھا اس واقعہ کا علم ہو گیا۔ جب لشکر واپس مدینہ لوٹا۔ تو وہ دوڑ کر مدینہ کے دروازہ کے آگے کھڑا ہو گیا۔ اور اس نے تلوار نکال لی۔ اور باپ سے کہا کہ اونٹ سے اُتر آ۔ اور سب مدینہ والوں کے سامنے بلند آواز سے کہہ کہ مدینہ کے سب سے معزّز آدمی محمد رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہیں اور سب سے ذلیل مَیں ہوں۔ جب تک نہ کہو گے۔ مدینہ میں داخل نہ ہو سکو گے اور اگر کوشش کرو گے تو تمہارا سر کاٹ دوں گا۔ عبداللہ ڈر گیا۔ اور سب کے سامنے اس

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

یہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم مدینے واپس پہنچ جائیں تو جو عزت والا ہے وہ ذلیل کو وہاں سے نکال باہر کرے گا حالانکہ عزت تو اللہ اور اس کے رسولؐ اور مومنین کے لیے ہے، مگر یہ منافق جانتے نہیں ہیں

English - Sahih

They say, "If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel therefrom the more humble." And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.
