قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ قُل لَّآ أَتَّبِعُ أَهْوَآءَكُمْ ۙ قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذًا وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Say: ‘I am forbidden to worship those on whom you call beside Allah.’ Say: ‘I will not follow your evil inclinations. In that case, I shall become lost and I shall not be of the guided.’

English - Five Volume Translation

Say: ‘I am forbidden to worship those on whom you call beside Allah.’ Say: [b]‘I will not follow your evil inclinations. In that case, I shall become lost and I shall not be of the guided.’[802]

5:50; 42:16.

Commentary:

This verse is connected with 6:53 above. The Holy Prophet is here bidden to say to disbelievers what may be described as follows: "I have nothing to do with your gods and I therefore cannot, for your sake, drive away my poor followers. They believe in the One God, while you are idolaters. How can I then drive away the believers in the One God for the sake of those who disbelieve! You say that if you join Islam, it will receive strength and support from you. But the truth is that if I follow your wishes, the result will be that I shall become lost and my movement will be ruined rather than strengthened. Again, my mission is that men may accept and follow guidance; but if I act upon your wishes, the result will be that I myself will go astray. Then there will be no Islam and no guidance. What then shall I gain from your support?"

English - Short Commentary Translation

Say, ‘I am forbidden to worship those on whom you call besides Allah.’ Say, [d]‘I will not follow your low desires. In that case, I shall have gone astray and I shall not be of the rightly guided.’

5:50; 42:16.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تو کہہ دے کہ یقیناً مجھے منع کر دیا گیا ہے کہ میں ان کی عبادت کروں جنہیں تم اللہ کے سوا پکارتے ہو۔ تو کہہ دے مَیں تو تمہاری خواہشات کی پیروی نہیں کروں گا (ورنہ) میں اُسی وقت گمراہ ہو جاؤں گا اور میں ہدایت پانے والوں میں سے نہ بن سکوں گا۔

French

Dis : « Il m’est interdit d’adorer ceux que vous invoquez en dehors d’Allāh. » Dis : « Je ne suivrai pas vos vains désirs ; sinon je m’égarerais et je ne serais pas du nombre de ceux qui sont bien guidés. »

German

Sprich: "Mir ward verboten, die anzubeten, die ihr statt Allah anruft." Sprich: "Ich will euren bösen Gelüsten nicht folgen; ich würde sonst wahrlich irregehen und wäre nicht unter den Rechtgeleiteten."

你 (向他们) 说: “我完全被禁止崇拜你们除安拉之外所呼唤的 (那些假的) 膜拜对象。” 你 (向他们) 说: [a]“我不顺从你们无益的欲望。(如果我这样做,) 那么, 在这种情况下, (你们就可了解) 我已迷失了道路, 不是受 (安拉) 领导的。”

Di': «Mi è vietato adorare coloro che voi invocate oltre ad Allah.» Di': «Non seguirò i vostri vani desideri. Se lo facessi, mi perderei e non sarei fra coloro che sono guidati.»

Spanish

Diles: “Se me ha prohibido adorar a quienes invocáis en vez de Al-lah”. Diles: “No seguiré vuestros deseos vanos porque, de hacerlo, me extraviaría y no estaría entre los guiados”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو (ان سے) کہدے کہ مجھے بالکل منع کیا گیا ہے کہ میں ان (جھوٹے معبودوں) کی عبادت کروں جنہیں تم اللہ کے سوا پکارتے ہو۔ تو (ان سے) کہدے کہ میں تمہاری گری ہوئی خواہشات کی پیروی نہیں کرتا (اگر میں ایسا کروں تو) اس صورت میں (سمجھو کہ) میں گمراہ ہو چکا۔ اور میں ہدایت یافتہ (لوگوں) میں سے نہیں ہوں۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اے محمدؐ! اِن سے کہو کہ تم لوگ اللہ کے سوا جن دوسروں کو پکارتے ہو اُن کی بندگی کرنے سے مجھے منع کیا گیا ہے کہو، میں تمہاری خواہشات کی پیروی نہیں کروں گا، اگر میں نے ایسا کیا تو گمراہ ہو گیا، راہ راست پانے والوں میں سے نہ رہا

English - Sahih

Say, "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you invoke besides Allah." Say, "I will not follow your desires, for I would then have gone astray, and I would not be of the [rightly] guided."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کہہ دو مجھے منع کیا گیا ہے اس سے کہ میں بندگی کروں ان کی جنہیں تم الله کے سوا پکارتے ہو کہہ دو میں تمہاری خواہشات کے پیچھے نہیں چلتا کیوں کہ میں اس وقت گمراہ ہو جاؤں گا اور ہدایت پانے والوں میں سے نہ رہوں گا

English - Talal Itani

Say, "Indeed I [I] am forbidden that I worship those whom you call from besides Allah." Say, "Not I follow your (vain) desires, certainly I would go astray then, and not I (would be) from the guided-ones."
