وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَأَرَيْنَٰكَهُمْ فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم بِسِيمَٰهُمْ ۚ وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ فِى لَحْنِ ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَعْمَٰلَكُمْ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And if We pleased, We could show them to thee so that thou shouldst know them by their marks. And thou shalt surely recognize them by the tone of their speech. And Allah knows your deeds.

And if We pleased, We could show them to thee so that thou shouldst know them by their marks. And thou shalt surely recognize them by the tone of their speech. And Allah knows your deeds.[3811]

Important Words:

لحن (tone) is inf. noun from لحن (Lahana). They say لحن له i.e. he said to him something which he (the latter) understood but which was unintelligible to others; he intimated to him something which he alone understood; he spoke obliquely or ambiguously. لحن means, the meaning of speech; its intended sense or import; its intent (it is direct and also indirect); an oblique or ambiguous mode of speech; an inclining of speech to obliqueness, or ambiguity, and equivocal allusion (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

A hypocrite faces both ways. He never talks straight and always indulges in ambiguous and equivocal speech so that it conveys one sense to one person and quite another sense to another person. It is to this crooked manner of speech of the hypocrites that reference has also been made in 2:105.

English - Short Commentary Translation

And if We pleased, We could show them to thee so that thou shouldst know them by their marks. And thou shalt, surely, recognize them by the tone of their speech.[2756] And Allah knows your deeds.

A hypocrite never talks straight. He always indulges in ambiguous and equivocal speech in order that it should convey one sense to one person and quite another sense to another person. It is to this crooked manner of speech of the hypocrites that reference has also been made in 2:105.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اگر ہم چاہیں تو تجھے ضرور وہ لوگ دکھا دیں گے اور تُو ان کو ضرور ان کی علامتوں سے جان لے گا اور اُن کو ان کے لب و لہجہ سے یقیناً پہچان لے گا اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال کو جانتا ہے۔

French

Et si Nous le voulions, Nous pourrions te les montrer, pour que tu les reconnaisses à leurs traits. Et tu les reconnaîtras assurément au ton de leur discours. Et Allāh connaît vos actions.

German

Und wenn Wir es wollten, Wir könnten sie dir zeigen, so dass du sie an ihren Merkmalen erkennen würdest. Und du sollst sie gewiss am Klang der Rede erkennen. Und Allah kennt euer Tun.

假如我愿意的话, 我能把他们显现给你看, 以便你藉他们的特征而认识他们。而且你必将从他们说话的语气中认出他们。[1261]安拉是知道你们的行为的。

伪君子从来不说直话。他说话总是模棱两可, 具多义性, 因此对甲是这个意思, 对乙又是另一个意思。正因为伪君子的这种不正言谈, 2:105节经文中才提到了这点。

E se Noi volessimo, potremmo mostrarteli, così che li potresti individuare dai loro tratti. E, per certo, tu li riconoscerai dal tono dei loro discorsi. E Allah conosce le vostre opere.

Spanish

Mas si lo hubiésemos querido, te los habríamos mostrado para que los conocieras por sus señales. Ciertamente los reconocerás por el tono de sus palabras. Y Al-lah conoce vuestras acciones.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اگر ہم چاہیں تو ان کا وجود تجھ پر ظاہر کر دیں۔ اور تو ان کو ان کے چہروں سے پہچان لے اور (اب بھی) تو ان کو ان کے کلام کی ادا سے پہچان لیتا ہے‘ اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال کو جانتا ہے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

ہم چاہیں تو انہیں تم کو آنکھوں سے دکھا دیں اور اُن کے چہروں سے تم ان کو پہچان لو مگر ان کے انداز کلام سے تو تم ان کو جان ہی لو گے اللہ تم سب کے اعمال سے خوب واقف ہے

English - Sahih

And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allah knows your deeds.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور اگر ہم چاہتے تو آپ کو وہ لوگ دکھا دیتے پس آپ اچھی طرح سے انہیں ان کے نشان سےپہچان لیتے اور آپ انہیں طرز کلام سے پہچان لیں گے اور الله تمہارے اعمال کو جانتا ہے

And if We willed surely, We could show them to you and you would know them by their marks; but surely, you will know them by (the) tone (of their) speech. And Allah knows your deeds.

Did We will, We would show them to thee, then thou wouldst know them by their mark; and thou shalt certainly know them in the twisting of their speech; and God knows your deeds.

If We were to so will, We could have shown them to you so that you would recognise them by their faces, and you would certainly know them by the manner of their speech. Allah knows all your deeds.

Had We pleased We could have shown them to you that you could know them by their marks, and recognise them from the way they twist their words. Yet God knows all your deeds.

Had We so wiled, We could have shown them up to thee, and thou shouldst have known them by their marks: but surely thou wilt know them by the tone of their speech! And Allah knows all that ye do.
