وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تَذْبَحُوا۟ بَقَرَةً ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًا ۖ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِٱللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And remember when Moses said to his people: ‘Allah commands you to slaughter a cow,’ they said: ‘Dost thou make a jest of us?’ He said: ‘I seek refuge with Allah from being one of the ignorant.’

And remember when Moses said to his people, ‘Allah commands you to slaughter a cow,’ they said: ‘Dost thou make a jest of us?’ He said, ‘I seek refuge with Allah from being one of the ignorant.’[74]

Important Words:

ھزوا (a jest) means: (1) jest; (2) the object or butt of a joke (Lisan). See also 2:14.

Commentary:

Here begins an account of another Israelite wrong which was allied to their worship of the calf. Though the calf mentioned in 2:52 was destroyed, yet veneration for the cow lingered in their hearts. The verse, along with those that follow, will be explained under verse 72 below.

And remember when Moses said to his people, ‘Allah commands you to slaughter a cow,’ they said, ‘Dost thou make a jest of us?’ He said, ‘I seek refuge with Allah lest I should be one of the ignorant.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور جب موسیٰ نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ یقیناً اللہ تمہیں حکم دیتا ہے کہ تم ایک (امتیاز رکھنے والی) گائے کو ذبح کرو۔ انہوں نے کہا کیا تو ہمیں ہنسی کا نشانہ بنا رہا ہے؟ اس نے کہا کہ میں اللہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں اس بات سے کہ میں جاہلوں میں سے ہو جاؤں۔

Et souvenez-vous quand Moïse dit à son peuple : « Assurément, Allāh vous commande d’immoler une vache, » ils répondirent : « Te moques-tu de nous ? » Alors il dit : « Allāh me préserve d’être du nombre des ignorants ! »

Und (denket daran) als Moses zu seinem Volke sprach: "Allah befiehlt euch, eine Kuh zu schlachten"; da sagten sie: "Treibst du Spott mit uns?" Er sprach: "Ich suche Zuflucht bei Allah, dass ich nicht sei der Unwissenden einer."

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور (اس وقت کو بھی یاد کرو) جب موسیٰ نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ اللہ تمہیں گائے کے[4] ذبح کرنے کا حکم دیتا ہے‘ انہوں نے کہا کیا تو ہمیں تمسخر کا نشانہ بناتا ہے؟ (موسیٰ نے) کہا میں (اس بات سے) اللہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں کہ (ایسا فعل کرکے) جاہلوں میں شامل ہو جاؤں۔

اس جگہ بَقَرَۃٌ کا لفظ ہے اور یہ لفظ مؤنث و مذکر دونوں کے لئے بولا جاتا ہے۔ اَلْبَقَرُ کا لفظ اسم جنس کے لئے آتا ہے اور اس کے ساتھ ۃ وحدت کو بیان کرنے کے لئے لائی گئی ہے یعنی جنس بقر میں سے ایک۔ جیسا کہ بتایا جا چکا ہے۔ اَلْبَقَرَۃُ کا لفظ گائے بیل دونوں کے لئے بولا جاتا ہے۔ اردو میں چونکہ ایسا کوئی لفظ نہیں جو پورا مفہوم ادا کر دے اس لئے ہم نے اس کا ترجمہ ’’گائے‘‘ لکھا ہے۔ یوں تاریخ سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اسرائیلی مصریوں سے متاثر تھے اور وہ بیل کی پوجا کرتے تھے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

پھر وہ واقعہ یاد کرو، جب موسیٰؑ نے اپنے قوم سے کہا کہ، اللہ تمہیں ایک گائے ذبح کرنے کا حکم دیتا ہے کہنے لگے کیا تم ہم سے مذاق کرتے ہو؟ موسیٰؑ نے کہا، میں اس سے خدا کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں کہ جاہلوں کی سی باتیں کروں

And [recall] when Moses said to his people, "Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you take us in ridicule?" He said, "I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant."

اور جب موسیٰ نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ الله تمہیں حکم دیتا ہے کہ ایک گائے ذبح کرو انہوں نے کہا کیا تم ہم سے ہنسی کرتا ہے کہا میں الله کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں اس سے کہ جاہلوں میں سے ہوں

And when said Musa to his people, "Indeed, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you take us (in) ridicule." He said, "I seek refuge in Allah that I be among the ignorant."

And when Moses said to his people, 'God commands you to sacrifice a cow.' They said, 'Dost thou take us in mockery?' He said, 'I take refuge with God, lest I should be one of the ignorant.'

Then call to mind the other event: when Moses said to his people, "Allah commands you to sacrifice a cow," they replied, "Do you mean to have a jest with us?" He answered, "I crave Allah's protection from behaving like ignorant people."
