فَجَعَلْنَٰهَا نَكَٰلًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَمَا خَلْفَهَا وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

Thus We made it an example to those of its time and to those who came after it, and a lesson to those who fear God.

Thus We made it [a]an example to those of its time and to those who came after it, and a lesson to those who fear God.[73]

5:39.

Important Words:

نکالا (an example) is derived from نکل. They say نکل بفلان i.e. he inflicted on him such a punishment as to make him an example for others (Aqrab).

Commentary:

All punishment, if wisely directed, should serve a twofold purpose: (1) to inflict pain on the offender so as to make him reform in future; (2) to make it a lesson for others so that they may beware of falling into a similar error. But, as the latter part of the verse points out, only such men benefit by punishment as are God-fearing.

5:39.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پس ہم نے اس (سَبت کی بے حرمتی) کو اس کے پیش منظر کی وجہ سے اور اس کے پس منظر کی وجہ سے سرزنش کا باعث بنا دیا اور متقیوں کے لئے ایک عظیم نصیحت (بنایا)۔

5:39.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

پس ہم نے اس (واقعہ) کو ان (لوگوں) کے لئے بھی جو (اس وقت) موجود تھے اور اس (وقوعہ) کے بعد آنے والے لوگوں کے لئے بھی (موجب) عبرت اور متقیوں کے لئے (موجب) نصیحت بنا دیا۔

اس طرح ہم نے اُن کے انجام کو اُس زمانے کے لوگوں اور بعد کی آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے عبرت اور ڈرنے والوں کے لیے نصیحت بنا کر چھوڑا

English - Sahih

And We made it a deterrent punishment for those who were present and those who succeeded [them] and a lesson for those who fear Allah.

پھر ہم نے اس واقعہ کو اس زمانہ کے لوگوں کے لیے اور ان سے پچھلوں کے لیے عبرت اور پرہیز گاروں کے لیے نصیحت بنا دیا
