أَثُمَّ إِذَا مَا وَقَعَ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦٓ ۚ ءَآلْـَٰٔنَ وَقَدْ كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

‘Is it then when it has befallen you that you will believe in it? What! Now! And before this you used to demand its speedy coming?’

Is it then when it has befallen you that you will believe in it? [a]What! Now! And before this you used to demand its speedy coming?’[1327]

10:92.

Commentary:

This verse contains an effective reply to those who demand the sign of punishment. They are told that the real object for which signs are shown is that they should benefit by them. But what sense is there in demanding the sign of punishment when, with the actual coming of destructive punishment the door of repentance is finally closed and readiness to believe becomes a useless thing?

The words, you used to demand its speedy coming, signify that those who desire to hasten punishment set a seal on their own disbelief and desire to die in that state. How then can they, consistently with their attitude, turn to belief when the punishment of death stares them in the face?

Is it then when it has overtaken you that you will believe in it? [a]What! you believe now! And before this you used to demand its speedy coming?’

10:92.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تو پھر کیا اس وقت اس پر ایمان لاؤ گے جب وہ واقعہ ہو چکا ہوگا۔ کیا اب (بھاگ نکلنے کی کوئی راہ ہے) اور تم تو اُسے جلدتر لانے کا مطالبہ کیا کرتے تھے۔

Est-ce donc quand lorsque cela vous survient que vous y croirez ? Comment ! Vous croyez maintenant ! Et avant ceci, vous cherchiez à le hâter. »

German

Wollt ihr erst dann, wenn sie eintrifft, an sie glauben? Wie! Jetzt! Und doch wolltet ihr sie beschleunigen!"

“你们将在它降临时才相信它? (那时相信, 不能有任何益处。届时, 你们将受示说:) [a]“(你们) 现在 (才相信!其实在它到来以前) 你们一向不都是要求它从速到来的?”

10:92.

«Dunque, crederete soltanto quando vi sarà piombata addosso? Che! Ora ci credete! E prima voi esigevate che arrivasse presto?»

Y cuando haya caído sobre vosotros, ¿Creeréis entonces en él? ¡Cómo! ¡Ahora! ¿Solíais pedir antes de esto que viniera rápidamente?”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

کیا پھر جب وہ آجائے گا (تو اس وقت) تم اس پر ایمان لاؤ گے؟ (اس کا کچھ فائدہ نہیں ہو سکتا۔ اس وقت تو تم سے کہا جائے گا کہ) کیا اب (تم ایمان لاتے ہو) حالانکہ (اس کے آنے تک) تم اس کے جلد آنے کا مطالبہ کرتے رہے ہو۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

کیا جب وہ تم پر آ پڑے اسی وقت تم اسے مانو گے؟ اب بچنا چاہتے ہو؟ حالانکہ تم خود ہی اس کے جلدی آنے کا تقاضا کر رہے تھے!

Then is it that when it has [actually] occurred you will believe in it? Now? And you were [once] for it impatient

کیا پھر جب وہ آ چکے گا تب اس پر ایمان لاؤ گے اب مانتے ہو اور تم اس کی جلدی کرتے تھے
