[1] حَافَ , aor. يَحِيفُ, (S, Msb,) inf. n. حَيْفٌ, (S, Msb, K,) He (a judge, or any other person, Msb) acted wrongfully, unjustly, injuriously, or tyrannically, (S, Msb, K,) عَلَيْهِ against him: (S:) or, as some say, he inclined [to that which was wrong], or declined [from that which was right], in his judgment. (TA.) حَيْفُ النَّاحِلِ means A man's giving to certain of his children exclusively of others: he should treat them equally, and not prefer some before others. (T, TA.)

أَفِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَمِ ٱرْتَابُوٓا۟ أَمْ يَخَافُونَ أَن يَحِيفَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚ بَلْ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Is it that there is a disease in their hearts? Or do they doubt, or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will be unjust to them? Nay, it is they themselves who are the wrongdoers.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

کیا ان کے دلوں میں مرض ہے یا وہ شک میں پڑ گئے ہیں یا ڈرتے ہیں کہ اللہ اُن پر ظلم کرے گا اور اس کا رسول بھی۔ بلکہ یہی ہیں جو خود ظالم ہیں۔

Y a-t-il une maladie dans leur cœur ? Ou doutent-ils ou craignent-ils qu’Allāh et Son Messager ne soient injustes envers eux ? Non, mais ce sont eux qui sont les injustes.

Ist es, dass Krankheit in ihren Herzen ist? Oder zweifeln sie, oder fürchten sie, dass Allah und Sein Gesandter ungerecht gegen sie sein würden? Nein, sie sind es selbst, die Unrecht begehen.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

کیا ان کے دلوں میں کوئی بیماری ہے؟ یا وہ شبہ میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں یا وہ ڈرتے ہیں کہ اللہ اور اس کا رسول ان پر ظلم کرے گا۔ ایسا ہرگز نہیں‘ بلکہ وہ خود ظالم ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Is it that there is a diseasein their hearts? Or, do they doubt, or, do they fear[2055] that Allah and His Messenger will be unjust to them? Nay, it is they themselves who are the wrongdoers.

The verse signifies that disbelievers suffer from one or all of the three spiritual diseases, or that some of them suffer from one disease and others from other diseases. In fact, the three main things that stand in the way of a man’s spiritual progress and retard and arrest it are doubt, fear and envy.

English - Five Volume Translation

Is it that there is a disease in their hearts? Or do they doubt, or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will be unjust to them? Nay, it is they themselves who are the wrongdoers.[2628]

Commentary:

The verse signifies that disbelievers suffer from one or all of the three spiritual diseases or that some of them suffer from one disease and others from other diseases.

In fact, the three main things that stand in the way of a man’s spiritual progress and retard and arrest it, are doubt, fear and envy. These must be conquered before any real and substantial progress is possible.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

کیا ان کے دلوں کو (منافقت کا) روگ لگا ہوا ہے؟ یا یہ شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں؟ یا ان کو یہ خوف ہے کہ اللہ اور اس کا رسول ان پر ظلم کرے گا؟ اصل بات یہ ہے کہ ظالم تو یہ لوگ خود ہیں

English - Sahih

Is there disease in their hearts? Or have they doubted? Or do they fear that Allah will be unjust to them, or His Messenger? Rather, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

کیا ان کے دلوں میں بیماری ہے یا شک میں پڑے ہیں یا ڈرتے ہیں اس سے کہ ان پر الله اور اس کا رسول ظلم کرے گا بلکہ وہی ظالم ہیں

Is (there) in their hearts a disease or do they doubt or they fear that Allah will be unjust to them and His Messenger? Nay, those [they] (are) the wrongdoers.
