إِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلًا ۖ وَلَوْ أَرَىٰكَهُمْ كَثِيرًا لَّفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَٰزَعْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَلَّمَ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

When Allah showed them to thee in thy dream as few; and if He had shown them to thee as many, you would have surely faltered and would have disagreed with one another about the matter; but Allah saved you. Surely, He has full knowledge of what is in your breasts.

[a]When Allah showed them to thee in thy dream as few; and if He had shown them to thee as many, you would have surely faltered and would have disagreed with one another about the matter; but Allah saved you. Surely, He has full knowledge of what is in your breasts.[1132]

3:14.

Important Words:

منام (dream) is derived from نام i.e. he slept. منام means, sleep; place where one sleeps; dream (Aqrab).

Commentary:

While on his way to Badr, the Holy Prophet was shown the Meccan army in a dream to be less in number than they actually were (Tabari, x. 9). In the language of dreams, this meant that the Meccan force, in spite of their superior numbers and equip-ment, would be overcome by the Muslims. On the other hand, if the enemy had been shown in a dream to be in large numbers, the interpretation of the dream would have been that the party to which the dreamer belonged would lose heart and would be overpowered by the enemy.

[b]When Allah showed them to thee in thy dream as few[1126] and if He had shown them to thee as many, you would certainly have faltered and would have disagreed with one another about the matter; but Allah saved you. Surely, He has full knowledge of what is in your breasts.

3:14.

On his way to Badr the Holy Prophet in a vision saw the Meccan army to be less in number than they actually were (Jarir, x.9). This meant that in spite of their superior numbers and equipment they would be defeated.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

(یاد کرو) جب اللہ تجھے اُن کو تیری نیند کی حالت میں کم دکھا رہا تھا اور اگر وہ تجھے اُن کو کثیر تعداد میں دکھاتا تو (اے مومنو!) تم ضرور بزدلی دکھاتے اور اس اہم معاملہ میں اختلاف کرتے۔ لیکن اللہ نے (تمہیں) بچا لیا۔ یقیناً وہ سینوں کے رازوں کو خوب جانتا ہے۔

French

Quand Allāh te les avait montrés en songe, comme peu nombreux ; et s’Il te les avait montrés nombreux, vous auriez assurément flanché et vous n’auriez pas été d’accord sur l’affaire ; mais Allāh vous a sauvés. Assurément Il sait très bien ce qui est dans les cœurs.

German

Als Allah sie dir in deinem Traume zeigte als wenige; und hätte Er sie dir als viele gezeigt, ihr wäret sicherlich kleinmütig gewesen und hättet über die Sache gehadert; Allah aber bewahrte (euch davor); wahrlich, Er kennt wohl, was in den Herzen ist.

[c](这是那个时候的事件,) 安拉使你在梦中看见他们是少量的, 如果安拉使你看见他们 (不信者) 是大量的, 那么, 你们一定示弱, 且在这一方面互相争论 (战或不战); 但是安拉拯救了你们。他确知你们心中的事情。

Italian

Quando Allah te li mostrò nel tuo sogno come poco numerosi, se te li avesse mostrati come molti, certamente avreste esitato e sareste stati in disaccordo sul da farsi; ma Allah vi ha salvato. Non c'è dubbio che Egli ha piena conoscenza di quello che c'è nei vostri cuori.

Spanish

Cuando Al-lah, en tu sueño, te los hizo ver como poco numerosos; ya que si te los hubiera mostrado en gran número, ciertamente habríais vacilado y estado mutuamente en desacuerdo sobre la cuestión; pero Al-lah os salvó. En verdad, Él conoce perfectamente lo que hay en vuestros corazones.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(یہ واقعہ اس وقت کا ہے) جبکہ اللہ نے تیری [2]خواب میں تجھے انہیں[3] کم کرکے دکھایا تھا اور اگر تجھے وہ (کفار) بڑی تعداد[4] میں دکھائے جاتے تو تم ضرور کمزوری دکھاتے اور اس معاملہ میں (یعنی لڑائی کے بارہ میں) آپس میں جھگڑتے (کہ لڑائی کی جائے یا نہ) لیکن اللہ نے (تم کو) محفوظ رکھا۔ وہ دلوں تک کی باتوں کو خوب جانتا ہے۔

خواب میں دشمن کی تعداد کم کرکے دکھائے جانے کا مطلب یہ ہوتا ہے کہ دشمن پر غلبہ ملے گا۔

یعنی کفار کے لشکر کو۔

یعنی خواب میں کفار زیادہ دکھائے جاتے تو اس کی تعبیر یہ ہوتی کہ وہ غالب آئیں گے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور یاد کرو وہ وقت جبکہ اے نبیؐ، خدا اُن کو تمہارے خواب میں تھوڑا دکھا رہا تھا، اگر کہیں وہ تمہیں اُن کی تعداد زیادہ دکھا دیتا تو ضرور تم لوگ ہمت ہار جاتے اور لڑائی کے معاملہ میں جھگڑا شروع کر دیتے، لیکن اللہ ہی نے اِس سے تمہیں بچایا، یقیناً وہ سینوں کا حال تک جانتا ہے

English - Sahih

[Remember, O Muhammad], when Allah showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allah saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

جب کہ الله نے وہ کافر تجھے تیرے خواب میں تھوڑے کر کے دکھلائے اور اگرتجھے بہت دکھلا دیتا تو تم لوگ نامردی کر تے اور کام میں جھگڑا ڈالتے لیکن الله نے بچا لیا جو بات دلوں میں ہے وہ اسے خوب معلوم ہے

When you (where) shown them (by) Allah in your dream (as) few, and if He had shown them to you (as) many surely you would have lost courage and surely you would have disputed in the matter, but Allah saved (you). Indeed, He (is) All-Knower of what is in the breasts.

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

خواب میں دشمن کی تعداد کم کرکے دکھائے جانے کا مطلب یہ ہوتا ہے کہ دشمن پر غلبہ ملے گا۔

یعنی کفار کے لشکر کو۔

یعنی خواب میں کفار زیادہ دکھائے جاتے تو اس کی تعبیر یہ ہوتی کہ وہ غالب آئیں گے۔

When God showed thee them in thy dream as few; and had He shown them as many you would have lost heart, and quarrelled about the matter; but God saved; He knows the thoughts in the breasts.

And recall when Allah showed them to you in your dream to be few in number. And had He showed them to you to be numerous, you would have flagged and disagreed with one another about fighting them. But Allah saved you. Surely Allah knows what is hidden in the breasts.

When Allah showed them unto thee (O Muhammad) in thy dream as few in number, and if He had shown them to thee as many, ye (Muslims) would have faltered and would have quarrelled over the affair. But Allah saved (you). Lo! He knoweth what is in the breasts (of men).
