وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَٱحْذَرُوا۟ ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَا عَلَىٰ رَسُولِنَا ٱلْبَلَٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and be on your guard. But if you turn away, then know that on Our Messenger lies only the clear conveyance of the Message.

And [a]obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and be on your guard. But if you turn away, then know that [b]on Our Messenger lies only the clear conveyance of the Message.[720]

Commentary:

The words, be on your guard, may either mean, "you should be on your guard against evils" or they may signify that if you obey Allah and obey the Prophet, the result will be that you will be able to guard yourselves against evil.

The concluding part of the verse means that the duty of a Messenger of God is only to convey to men His commandments. It forms no part of his work to force them to follow him. This exposes the absurdity of the objection that Islam enjoins the use of force for its propagation. Elsewhere the Quran says: There should be no compulsion in religion (2:257). Both these verses and many similar others were revealed at Medina when a state of war existed between disbelievers and believers, which clearly shows that the Holy Prophet took up arms only to defend himself and his followers and not to propagate his religion at the point of the sword, as is often maliciously alleged by the opponents of Islam.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اللہ کی اطاعت کرو اور رسول کی اطاعت کرو اور (برائی سے) بچتے رہو۔ اور اگر تم پیٹھ پھیر جاؤ تو جان لو کہ ہمارے رسول پر صرف واضح پیغام پہنچانا ہے۔

Et obéissez à Allāh et obéissez au Messager et soyez sur vos gardes. Mais si vous tournez le dos, alors sachez bien que Notre Messager n’est chargé que de transmettre clairement le Message.

Und gehorchet Allah und gehorchet dem Gesandten, und seid auf der Hut. Kehrt ihr euch jedoch ab, dann wisset, dass Unserem Gesandten nur die deutliche Verkündung obliegt.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور تم اللہ کی (بھی) اطاعت کرو اور اس رسول کی (بھی) اطاعت کرو۔ اور ہوشیار رہو اور اگر (اس تنبیہ کے بعد بھی) تم پھر گئے تو جان لو کہ ہمارے رسول کے ذمہ تو کھول (کھول) کر پہنچا دینا ہی ہے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اللہ اور اُس کے رسول کی بات مانو اور باز آ جاؤ، لیکن اگر تم نے حکم عدولی کی تو جان لو کہ ہمارے رسول پر بس صاف صاف حکم پہنچا دینے کی ذمہ داری تھی

English - Sahih

And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware. And if you turn away - then know that upon Our Messenger is only [the responsibility for] clear notification.

اور الله اور رسول کا حکم مانو اور بچتے رہو پھر اگر تم پھر جاوگےتوجان لو کہ ہمارے رسول کے ذمہ صرف کھول کر پہنچا دینا ہی ہے
