وَيَقُولُونَ طَاعَةٌ فَإِذَا بَرَزُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ بَيَّتَ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ غَيْرَ ٱلَّذِى تَقُولُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُونَ ۖ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And they say: ‘Obedience is our guiding principle;’ but when they go forth from thy presence, a section of them spends the night scheming against what thou sayest. Allah records whatever they scheme by night. So turn away from them, and put thy trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

And they say: ‘Obedience is our guiding principle;’ but when they go forth from thy presence, a section of them [a]spends the night scheming against what thou sayest. Allah records whatever they scheme by night. So turn away from them, and put thy trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.[550]

4:109.

Important Words:

بیت (spends the night scheming) is derived from بات meaning, he passed or spent the night. بات زید نائما means, Zaid passed the night sleeping. بیت الامر means, he did or designed or schemed the thing at night. بیت رأیه means, he thought upon his opinion and concealed it, or he conceived it in his mind. بیت العدو means, he attacked the enemy, and took him by surprise by night (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

The word "night" or "scheming by night" should not be taken too literally. The reference is to secret plotting, whether by night or during the daytime. As generally secret plotting is done at night, the word بیت has been used, the night time affording a sort of cover and secrecy.

And they say: ‘Obedience is our guiding principle;’ but when they go forth from thy presence, a section of them [a]spends the night scheming[638] against what thou hast said. Allah records whatever they scheme by night. So turn away from them, and put thy trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

4:109.

The reference is to secret plotting, whether by night or during the day. As generally secret plotting is done at night, the word Bayyata has been used here, the night time affording a sort of cover and secrecy.

اور وہ (محض منہ سے) ”اطاعت“ کہتے ہیں! پھر جب وہ تجھ سے الگ ہوتے ہیں تو اُن میں سے ایک گروہ ایسی باتیں کرتے ہوئے رات گزارتا ہے جو اس سے مختلف ہیں جو تُو کہتا ہے۔ اور اللہ ان کی رات کی باتوں کو احاطہء تحریر میں لے آتا ہے۔ پس ان سے اِعراض کر اور اللہ پر توکّل کر اور اللہ کارساز کے طور پر کافی ہے۔

French

Et ils disent de leur bouche seulement : « L’obéissance ! « mais lorsqu’ils s'éloignent de ta présence, une partie d’entre eux passe la nuit à dire des choses autres que ce que tu dis. Allāh enregistre leurs complots nocturnes. Ainsi, détourne-toi d’eux et mets ta confiance en Allāh. Et Allāh suffit comme Protecteur.

German

Und sie sagen: "Gehorsam (ist unser Leitsatz)", doch wenn sie von dir gehen, dann ersinnt ein Teil von ihnen Anschläge gegen das, was du gesagt. Allah aber zeichnet alles auf, was sie an Anschlägen ersinnen. So wende dich von ihnen ab und vertraue auf Allah. Und Allah genügt als Vertrauter.

他们说: “服从 (是我们的人生原则;)” 但当他们离开了你, 他们一部分[a]却私自反对你所说的策划。凡他们所阴谋的, 安拉都把它一一记录下来。所以你不要理会他们, 而要信托安拉。作为事务的处理者, 安拉是足够的了。

4:109.

Italian

Ed essi dicono: «L'Obbedienza è il nostro principio guida.» Ma quando si allontanano dal tuo cospetto, parte di loro passa la notte a tramare cose diverse da quello che tu hai detto. Allah documenta qualunque cosa tramino durante la notte. Così, allontanati da loro e poni la tua fiducia in Allah. E ti basta Allah come Dispositore delle cose.

Spanish

Y dicen: “La obediencia es el principio que nos guía”; pero cuando se retiran de tu presencia, una parte de ellos pasa la noche intrigando contra lo que tú dices. Mas Al-lah toma nota de cuanto traman por la noche. Aléjate, pues, de ellos y pon tu confianza en Al-lah. Al-lah es suficiente como Ordenador de asuntos.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور وہ کہتے ہیں (کہ ہمارا کام تو) فرمانبرداری (ہے) پھر جب تیرے پاس سے چلے جاتے ہیں تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ جو کچھ تو کہتا ہے اس کے مخالف تدبیریں کرتا ہے۔ اور جو تدبیریں وہ کرتے ہیں اللہ انہیں محفوظ[2] کرتا جاتا ہے اس لئے تو ان سے اعراض کر اور اللہ پر بھروسہ رکھ اور اللہ کے بعد کسی اور کارساز کی ضرورت نہیں۔

یعنی ان کا حساب رکھتا جاتا ہے۔ وقت آنے پر اس کی سزا دے گا۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

وہ منہ پر کہتے ہیں کہ ہم مطیع فرمان ہیں مگر جب تمہارے پاس سے نکلتے ہیں تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ راتوں کو جمع ہو کر تمہاری باتوں کے خلاف مشورے کرتا ہے اللہ ان کی یہ ساری سرگوشیاں لکھ رہا ہے تم ان کی پروا نہ کرو اور اللہ پر بھروسہ رکھو، وہی بھروسہ کے لیے کافی ہے

English - Sahih

And they say, "[We pledge] obedience." But when they leave you, a group of them spend the night determining to do other than what you say. But Allah records what they plan by night. So leave them alone and rely upon Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور کہتے ہیں قبول کیا پھر جب تیرے ہاں سے باہر گئے تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ رات کو جمع ہو کر تمہاری باتو ں کے خلاف مشورہ کرتا ہے اور الله لکھتا ہے جو وہ مشورہ کرتے ہیں تو ان کی پرواہ نہ کر اور الله پر بھروسہ کر اور الله کارساز کافی ہے

And they say, "(We pledge) obedience." Then when they leave from you, plan by night a group of them other than that which you say. But Allah records what they plan by night. So turn (away) from them and put (your) trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah (as) a Trustee.

English - Arberry

They say, 'Obedience'; but when they sally forth from thee, a party of them meditate all night on other than what thou sayest. God writes down their meditations; so turn away from them, and put thy trust in God; God suffices for a guardian.

English - Maududi

They say (in your presence): 'We obey', but when they leave your presence a party of them meets by night to plan against what you have said. Allah takes note of all their plots. So, let them alone, and put your trust in Allah. Allah is sufficient as a guardian.

English - Ahmed Ali

They say: "We obey;" but when they leave your company, a section of them discuss at night other things than you had said; but God takes note of what they discuss. So turn aside from them and trust in God; and God is sufficient as protector.

They have "Obedience" on their lips; but when they leave thee, a section of them Meditate all night on things very different from what thou tellest them. But Allah records their nightly (plots): So keep clear of them, and put thy trust in Allah, and enough is Allah as a disposer of affairs.
