يَٰبُنَىَّ أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأْمُرْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱنْهَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَكَ ۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

‘O my dear son! observe Prayer, and enjoin good, and forbid evil, and endure patiently whatever may befall thee. Surely this is of those matters which require firm resolve.

‘O my dear son! [a]observe Prayer, and enjoin good, and forbid evil, and endure patiently whatever may befall thee. Surely, this is a matter of high resolve.[3044]

Commentary:

After belief in the Oneness of God and in His attributes, becomes firmly rooted, man naturally feels attracted towards Him and wishes to worship Him, which in the form of Prayer is most essential for his spiritual development. And after he himself becomes true and sincere votary of His Creator, man’s next duty lies in reforming his fellow-beings. But as soon as he enters upon this noble but very arduous task difficulties and impediments bar his way. He is told, in the verse, to put up with all sorts of hardships and privations that lie in the way of the discharge of his great duties. This is the significance of Luqman’s exhortation to his son "to endure patiently whatever may befall thee."

English - Short Commentary Translation

O my dear son, observe Prayer and enjoin good and forbid evil and endure patiently whatever may befall thee. Surely, this is of those matters which require high resolve;

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اے میرے پیارے بیٹے! نماز کو قائم کر اور اچھی باتوں کا حکم دے اور ناپسندیدہ باتوں سے منع کر اور اُس (مصیبت) پر صبر کر جو تجھے پہنچے۔ یقیناً یہ بہت اہم باتوں میں سے ہے۔

French

Ô mon cher fils ! Observe la Prière, et enjoins le bien, et interdis le mal, et supporte avec patience tout ce qui pourra te survenir. Assurément, ceci est parmi ces choses découlant d'une ferme détermination.

German

O mein lieber Sohn, verrichte das Gebet und gebiete Gutes und verbiete Böses und ertrage geduldig, was dich auch treffen mag. Das ist fürwahr ein Merkmal einer festen Gemütsart.

“我的儿呀! 要 (依照一切条件) 固守拜功, 劝善止恶, 忍受所遭遇的 (艰苦)。这确实 (需要) 坚强的意志;

Caro figlio mio, osserva la preghiera e prescrivi il bene e proibisci il male e sopporta pazientemente qualunque cosa ti possa accadere. Di certo, è questa una di quelle questioni che esigono grande risolutezza.

“¡Oh, mi querido hijo! cumple la Oración, recomienda el bien y prohíbe el mal y resiste pacientemente lo que pueda sobrevenirte. En verdad, éstos son los asuntos que exigen una firme resolución.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اے میرے بیٹے! نماز کو (تمام شرائط سے) قائم رکھ۔ اور معروف[1] باتوں کا حکم دیتا رہ اور ناپسندیدہ باتوں سے روکتا رہ اور جو (تنگی ترشی) تجھے پہنچے اس پر صبر سے کام لے یہ بات یقیناً نہایت ہی ہمت والے کاموں[2] میں سے ہے۔

مَعْرُوْف یعنی وہ باتیں جو عرف عام میں اچھی سمجھی جاتی ہیں۔

قرآن مجید میں مِنْ عَزْمِ الْاُمُوْرِ ہے۔ مگر محاورہ کے مطابق اس کے معنے اَ لْاُمُوْرُ الْمَعْزُوْمَۃُ کے ہیں۔ یعنی ایسے کاموں کے جن کے لئے کمر ہمت کسنی پڑتی ہے۔ یہ ترکیب ایسی ہے جیسی مَسْجِدُ الْجَامِعِ کی ترکیب ہے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

بیٹا، نماز قائم کرنے کا حکم دے، بدی سے منع کر، اور جو مصیبت بھی پڑے اس پر صبر کر یہ وہ باتیں ہیں جن کی بڑی تاکید کی گئی ہے

English - Sahih

O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] determination.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

بیٹا نماز پڑھا کر اور اچھے کاموں کی نصیحت کیا کر اوربرے کاموں سے منع کیا کر اور تجھ پر جو مصیبت آئے اس پر صبر کیا کر بے شک یہ ہمت کے کاموں میں سے ہیں

O my son! Establish the prayer and enjoin [with] the right and forbid from the wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, that (is) of the matters requiring determination.

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

مَعْرُوْف یعنی وہ باتیں جو عرف عام میں اچھی سمجھی جاتی ہیں۔

English - Arberry

O my son, perform the prayer, and bid unto honour, and forbid dishonour. And bear patiently whatever may befall thee; surely that is true constancy.

English - Maududi

Son, establish Prayer, enjoin all that is good and forbid all that is evil, and endure with patience whatever affliction befalls you. Surely these have been emphatically enjoined.

English - Ahmed Ali

O my son, fulfil your moral obligations, bid what is known to be right and forbid what is wrong, and bear with patience what befalls you. These are indeed acts of courage and resolve.
