29:22

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

He punishes whom He pleases and shows mercy unto whom He pleases; and to Him will you be turned back.

English - Five Volume Translation

[b]He punishes whom He pleases and shows mercy unto whom He pleases; and to Him will you be turned back.[2955A]

3:129; 5:41; 17:55.

Commentary:

As stated in many places in the Quran, God does not punish arbitrarily but only after punishment has been fully deserved. This verse only means that God in His perfect knowledge well knows who has deserved punishment, and He punishes accordingly.

English - Short Commentary Translation

[b]He punishes whom He pleases and shows mercy unto whom He pleases;[2245A] and to Him will you be turned back;

3:129; 5:41; 17:55.

As stated at several places in the Qur’an, God does not punish arbitrarily but only after punishment has been fully deserved. The verse only emphasizes this fact.

German

Er straft, wen Er will, und erweist Barmherzigkeit, wem Er will; und zu Ihm werdet ihr gewendet werden.

Chinese

[a]他惩罚他所意欲的人, 也对他意欲的人施行仁慈。[974]你们都将被带至他那里;

3:129; 5:41; 17:55.

Italian

Egli punisce chi Gli piace e mostra misericordia a chi Gli piace. E a Lui sarete ricondotti.

Spanish

Él castiga a quien Le place y muestra misericordia a quien Le agrada; y a Él seréis devueltos;

English - Sahih

He punishes whom He wills and has mercy upon whom He wills, and to Him you will be returned.

English - Talal Itani

He punishes whom He wills and has mercy (on) whom He wills, and to Him you will be returned.
