أَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِى مَسَٰكِنِهِمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Does it not afford guidance to them how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they now walk? Therein verily are Signs for those who are endued with reason.

Does it not afford guidance to them [a]how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they now walk? Therein verily are Signs for those who are endowed with reason.[2335]

17:18; 36:32.

Commentary:

The verse embodies a perpetual warning for the deniers of Divine Messengers that they will ultimately come to grief. It is an invariable and immutable divine law that rejection of Divine teaching lands the rejecters in utter ruin and destruction.

Does it not furnish guidance to them, [a]how many a generation We destroyed before them, amid whose dwellings they now walk? Therein, verily, are Signs for those who possess understanding.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پس کیا یہ بات ان کی ہدایت کا موجب نہیں بنی کہ ان سے پہلے کتنے ہی زمانوں کے لوگوں کو ہم نے ہلاک کر دیا جن کے مساکن میں وہ چلتے پھرتے ہیں۔ یقیناً اس میں صاحبِ عقل لوگوں کے لئے نشانات ہیں۔

Cela ne leur a pas servi de direction de voir combien de générations Nous avons détruites avant eux, dans les habitations desquelles ils marchent maintenant ? En vérité, il y a là des Signes pour ceux qui sont doués de raison.

German

Leuchtet es ihnen nicht ein, wie viele Geschlechter vor ihnen Wir schon vernichteten, in deren Wohnstätten sie (nun) wandeln? Darin sind wahrlich Zeichen für Leute, die mit Vernunft begabt sind.

在他们以前, 我已毁灭了[d]许多民族, 这些人 (现在) 来往于他们的故居, 难道他们 (从这些经历) 还没有获得教训? 其中对有理智的人确有大的迹象。

Non è di guida per loro il considerare quante generazioni abbiamo distrutto prima di loro, nelle cui abitazioni ora camminano? In verità qui ci sono segni per coloro che sono dotati di ragione.

¿No les sirve de guía el número de generaciones que hemos destruido antes de ellos, por cuyas moradas circulan ahora? Ahí en verdad hay Signos para quienes están dotados de razón.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

کیا ان لوگوں کو (اس بات سے) ہدایت حاصل نہ ہوئی کہ ان سے پہلی گزری ہوئی قوموں میں سے بہتوں کو ہم نے ہلاک کر دیا۔ یہ (لوگ) ان کے گھروں میں چلتے پھرتے ہیں اس میں عقل والے لوگوں کے لئے بڑے نشان ہیں۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

پھر کیا اِن لوگوں کو (تاریخ کے اس سبق سے) کوئی ہدایت نہ ملی کہ اِن سے پہلے کتنی ہی قوموں کو ہم ہلاک کر چکے ہیں جن کی (برباد شدہ) بستیوں میں آج یہ چلتے پھرتے ہیں؟ در حقیقت اِس میں بہت سی نشانیاں ہیں اُن لوگوں کے لیے جو عقل سلیم رکھنے والے ہیں

Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.

سو کیا انہیں اس بات سے بھی سمجھ نہیں آئی کہ ہم نے ان سے پہلے کئی جماعتیں ہلاک کر دی ہیں یہ لوگ ان کی جگہوں پر پھرتے ہیں بیشک اس میں عقل والوں کے لیے نشانیاں ہیں

Is it not a guidance to them, how many generations We destroyed before them in whose dwelling-places they walk? Surely in that are signs for men possessing reason.

Did they not find any guidance in the fact that We destroyed many nations in whose ruined dwelling-places they now walk about? Surely there are many Signs in them for people endowed with wisdom.
