وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ أَحْرَصَ ٱلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ حَيَوٰةٍ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ ۚ يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ أَن يُعَمَّرَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And thou shalt surely find them of all people, the most covetous of life, even more than those who set up equals with God. Every one of them wishes that he may be granted a life of a thousand years, but his being granted such life shall not keep him away from the punishment; and Allah sees all that they do.

And thou shalt surely find them, of all people, the most covetous of life, even more than those who set up equals with God. Every one of them wishes that he may be granted a life of a thousand years, but his being granted such life [a]shall not keep him away from the punishment; and Allah sees all that they do.[103]

62:9.

Commentary:

The reason why Jews were more attached to the world than pagans is that the latter did not believe in any retribution after death and, therefore, though they loved this world as the only place for enjoying honour and happiness and entertained no hope about the next, yet with no fear of punishment after death, they were less cringingly attached to the present life than the Jews, who believed in Resurrection after death and feared in their hearts that their actions would make them liable to punishment before God.

62:9.

The pagans were less cringingly attached to the present life than the Jews because unlike the Jews they did not believe in the life after death and therefore had no fear of punishment after death.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور تُو اُنہیں سب لوگوں سے زیادہ زندگی پر حریص پائے گا حتیٰ کہ ان سے بھی (زیادہ) جنہوں نے شرک کیا۔ ان میں سے ہر ایک یہ چاہتا ہے کہ کاش وہ ایک ہزار سال عمر دیا جاتا حالانکہ اس کا لمبی عمر دیا جانا بھی اسے عذاب سے بچانے والا نہیں۔ اور اللہ اس پر گہری نظر رکھے ہوئے ہے جو وہ کرتے ہیں۔

French

Et assurément tu verras qu’ils convoitent la vie avec une plus grande avidité que tous les autres, même plus que les associateurs. Chacun d’entre eux veut qu’une vie de mille ans lui soit accordée ; mais même qu’il ait une telle longévité, cela ne l’éloignerait pas du châtiment ; et Allāh voit bien tout ce qu’ils font.

Und unter allen Menschen wirst du sie und einige Götzendiener gewiss am gierigsten nach Leben finden. Jeder einzelne von ihnen wünscht, es möchten ihm tausend Jahre Leben gewährt werden, allein selbst die Gewährung (solchen) Lebens hielte die Strafe nicht von ihm fern; und Allah sieht alles, was sie tun.

你一定发觉他们和多神教徒比一切人都更贪生, 他们之中每个人都望享寿千年。其实, 他享有长寿[a]也不能免除他遭受惩罚。安拉是洞察他们所做的一切的。

62:9.

Italian

E tu sicuramente li troverai, tra tutti, i più avidi di vita, persino più di coloro che mettono altri alla pari di Dio. Ciascuno di essi vorrebbe che gli fosse concessa una vita di mille anni, ma anche se ottenesse tale vita, non servirebbe ad evitargli il castigo; ed Allah vede tutto ciò che essi fanno.

Spanish

Y encontrarás en verdad que son, entre todas las gentes, los más ávidos de vivir, incluso más que los que elevan a otros a la altura de Dios. Todos desean que se les conceda una vida de mil años, pero aunque se les concediera tal vida eso no les ahorraría el castigo; y Al-lah ve todo lo que hacen.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور تو یقیناً انہیں (بھی) اور بعض ان لوگوں کو (بھی) جو مشرک ہیں سب لوگوں سے زیادہ زندگی کا حریص پائے گا۔ ان میں سے (ہر) ایک (یہی) چاہتا ہے کہ اسے ہزار سال کی عمر مل جائے حالانکہ یہ (امر یعنی) اس کا (لمبی) عمر[1] پانا اس کو عذاب سے نہیں بچا سکتا اور جو کچھ وہ کرتے ہیں اللہ اسے دیکھ رہا ہے۔

قرآن کریم میں ھُوَ کا لفظ ہے جس کے معنے ’’وہ‘‘ کے ہیں مگر چونکہ اس سے پہلے لَوْ یُعَمَّرُ کے الفاظ گزر چکے ہیں جن کی قائم مقام ضمیر ہے۔ اس لئے ان معنوں کو ترجمہ میں کھول دیا گیا ہے۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

تم انہیں سب سے بڑھ کر جینے کا حریص پاؤ گے حتیٰ کہ یہ اس معاملے میں مشرکوں سے بھی بڑھے ہوئے ہیں ان میں سے ایک ایک شخص یہ چاہتا ہے کہ کسی طرح ہزار برس جیے، حالانکہ لمبی عمر بہرحال اُسے عذاب سے تو دور نہیں پھینک سکتی جیسے کچھ اعمال یہ کر رہے ہیں، اللہ تو انہیں دیکھ ہی رہا ہے

English - Sahih

And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life - [even] more than those who associate others with Allah. One of them wishes that he could be granted life a thousand years, but it would not remove him in the least from the [coming] punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.

اور آپ انہیں زندگی پر سب لوگوں سے زيادہ حریص پائیں گے اور ان سے بھی جو مشرک ہیں ہرایک ان میں سے چاہتا ہے کہ کاش اسے ہزار برس عمرملے اور اسے عمر کا ملنا عذاب سے بچانے والا نہیں اور الله دیکھتا ہے جو وہ کرتے ہیں

And surely you will find them (the) most greedy (of) [the] mankind for life, and (greedier) than those who associate[d] partners (with Allah). Loves (each) one of them if he could be granted a life (of) a thousand year(s). But not it (will) remove him from the punishment that he should be granted life. English - Arberry

and thou shalt find them the eagerest of men for life. And of the idolaters; there is one of them wishes if he might be spared a thousand years, yet his being spared alive shall not remove him from the chastisement. God sees the things they do.

English - Maududi

You will find that, of all mankind, they are the greediest for life, nay, they are even greedier than the mushriks. Each one of them longs to have a life Of a thousand years, but a long life can, by no means, remove them away from the scourge, for Allah is watching whatever they are doing.

You will see they are covetous of life more than other men, even more than those who practise idolatry. Each one of them desires to live a thousand years, although longevity will never save them from punishment, for God sees all they do.
