فَهَزَمُوهُم بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَتَلَ دَاوُۥدُ جَالُوتَ وَءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُلْكَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَهُۥ مِمَّا يَشَآءُ ۗ وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّاسَ بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٍ لَّفَسَدَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

So they routed them by the command of Allah; and David slew Jalut, and Allah gave him sovereignty and wisdom, and taught him of what He pleased. And had it not been for Allah’s repelling men, some of them by the others, the earth would have become filled with disorder. But Allah is Munificent to all peoples.

22:41.

Commentary:

Talut or Gideon was able to defeat Jalut or the Midianites and curb their rising spirits, but their crushing defeat to which the verse refers as the killing of Jalut came in the time of David about two hundred years afterwards. This is why, whereas the defeat of Jalut by Talut has been spoken of by the Quran as ھزم i.e. routing, the complete crushing of their power has been referred to by the world قتل i.e. killing. The Bible speaks of the man defeated by David as Goliath (1 Sam. 17:4), which is similar to Jalut. Probably the attributive name given by the Quran to the people was also borne by their leader in the time of David.

The last clause of the verse, i.e. and had it not been for Allah’s repelling men, some of them by the others, the earth would have become filled with disorder, gives, in a nutshell, the whole philosophy of all wars of truth and justice. War should be resorted to only as a means of checking disorder and restoring peace, and not for creating disorder and breaking peace. The clause also serves as a criterion between Muslims and their adversaries and beautifully points to the party destined for final victory in the struggle.

So they routed[312] them by the command of Allah; and David slew Jalut, and Allah gave him sovereignty and wisdom, and taught him of what He pleased. And [c]had not Allah repelled some men by others, the earth would indeed be full of mischief.[313] But Allah is Lord of grace to all peoples.

22:41.

Talut or Gideon was able to defeat Jalut or the Midianites but their overwhelming defeat to which the verse refers as the killing of Jalut came in the time of David about two hundred years afterwards. The Bible speaks of the man defeated by David as Goliath (1 Sam. 17: 4), which is similar to Jalut. Probably, the attributive name given by the Qur’an to the people was also borne by their leader in the time of David.

These words give in a nutshell the whole philosophy of all wars of truth and justice. War should be resorted to only as a means of checking disorder and restoring peace and not for creating disorder and breaking peace and depriving weak nations of freedom.

پس انہوں نے اللہ کے حکم سے انہیں شکست دے دی۔ اور داؤد نے جالوت کو قتل کر دیا۔ اور اللہ نے اسے ملک اور حکمت عطا کئے اور اُسے جو چاہا اُس کی تعلیم دی۔ اور اگر اللہ کی طرف سے لوگوں کو ایک دوسرے کے ہاتھوں بچانے کا سامان نہ کیا جاتا تو زمین ضرور فساد سے بھر جاتی۔ لیکن اللہ تمام جہانوں پربہت فضل کرنے والا ہے۔

French

C’est ainsi qu’avec le commandement d’Allāh, ils les mirent en déroute. David tua Jālūt et Allāh lui accorda la souveraineté et la sagesse, et lui enseigna ce qu’Il voulut. Et si Allāh ne repoussait pas les hommes les uns par les autres, certainement la terre serait remplie de désordre. Mais Allāh est Seigneur de la grâce envers tous les peuples.

German

So schlugen sie jene nach Allahs Gebot; und David erschlug Dschâlût, und Allah verlieh ihm Herrschaft und Weisheit und lehrte ihn, was Ihm gefiel. Und wäre es nicht, dass Allah die Menschen hemmt, die einen durch die anderen, die Erde wäre mit Unordnung erfüllt. Doch Allah ist großmütig gegen die Menschen.

然后 (他们与敌人交战了,) 藉安拉的旨意, 他们打败了他们 (敌人)。达五德杀了贾鲁特。安拉授给了他权柄和智慧, 并把自己所意欲的知识教授了他, [a]如果安拉不藉一部分人抵抗另一部分人, 则大地必呈现混乱状态。[194]但安拉对于所有世界都是极有恩典的养主。

22:41.

这些字概括地说出了一切真理和正义战争的全部哲理。战争只能作为制止混乱而恢复和平的一种手段, 而不能作为制造混乱而破坏和平以及剥夺弱小国家自由的手段。

Così per comando di Allah li sbaragliarono; e Davide uccise Ğalut, e Allah gli concesse sovranità e sapienza, e gli insegnò ciò che volle. E se non fosse stato per Allah, che aveva sconfitto alcuni con la forza degli altri, la terra sarebbe immersa nel disordine. Ma Allah è munifico con tutti i popoli.

Spanish

Con el permiso de Dios los pusieron en fuga; y David mató a Yalut, y Al-lah le dio soberanía y sabiduría, enseñándole lo que Él quiso. Y de no haber sido porque Al-lah rechazó a los hombres, a algunos de ellos por medio de otros, la tierra se hubiera hundido en el desorden. Pero Al-lah es Magnánimo con todos los pueblos.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

پھر (وہ جنگ میں کود پڑے اور) انہوں نے اللہ کے ارادہ کے مطابق انہیں شکست (دے) دی۔ اور داؤد نے جالوت کو قتل کیا[1] اور اللہ نے اسے حکومت اور حکمت بخشی اور جو کچھ اسے (یعنی اللہ کو) منظور تھا اس کا علم اسے (یعنی داؤد کو) عطا کیا۔ اور اگر اللہ انسانوں کو (شرارت سے) نہ ہٹائے رکھتا یعنی بعض (انسانوں) کو بعض کے ذریعہ سے (نہ روکتا) تو زمین تہ و بالا ہو جاتی۔ لیکن اللہ تمام جہانوں پر بڑا فضل کرنے والا ہے (اس لئے اس فساد کو روک دیتا ہے)

جیسا کہ ہم اوپر بیان کر چکے ہیں پہلی آیات میں جدعون کا واقعہ بیان کیا گیا ہے۔ اب ان آیات میں حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام کا ذکر کیا گیا ہے اس کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام کا واقعہ جدعون کے واقعہ سے بہت کچھ ملتا ہے۔ جدعون کے وقت میں فلسطینیوں نے اسرائیل کو فلسطین سے نکالنے کی کوشش کی تھی۔ لیکن وہ ابتدائی کوشش تھی جو حضرت داؤدؑ کے زمانہ میں آکر ختم ہوئی۔ پس اس واقعہ کو مشابہت مضمون کی وجہ سے اس کے ساتھ بیان کیا گیا ہے۔ ورنہ پہلا جدعون کا واقعہ ہے اور یہ داؤدؑ کا واقعہ ہے اور دونوں میں دو سو سال کا فاصلہ ہے۔

آخر کا ر اللہ کے اذن سے اُنہوں نے کافروں کو مار بھگایا اور داؤدؑ نے جالوت کو قتل کر دیا اور اللہ نے اسے سلطنت اور حکمت سے نوازا اور جن جن چیزوں کا چاہا، اس کو علم دیا اگر اس طرح اللہ انسانوں کے ایک گروہ کو دوسرے گروہ کے ذریعے ہٹاتا نہ رہتا، تو زمین کا نظام بگڑ جاتا، لیکن دنیا کے لوگوں پر اللہ کا بڑا فضل ہے (کہ وہ اِس طرح دفع فساد کا انتظام کرتا رہتا ہے)

English - Sahih

So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the kingship and prophethood and taught him from that which He willed. And if it were not for Allah checking [some] people by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full of bounty to the worlds.

پھر الله کے حکم سے مومنو ں نے جالوت کے لشکروں کو شکست دی اور داؤد نے جالوت کو مار ڈالا اور الله نے سلطنت اور حکمت داؤد کو دی اور جو چاہا اسے سکھایا اور اگر الله کابعض کو بعض کے ذریعے سے دفع کرا دینا نہ ہوتا تو زمین فساد سے پُر ہو جاتی لیکن الله جہان والوں پر بہت مہربان ہے

And they routed them, by the leave of God, and David slew Goliath; and God gave him the kingship, and Wisdom, and He taught him such as He willed. Had God not driven back the people, some by the means of others, the earth had surely corrupted; but God is bounteous unto all beings.

Consequently, by Allah's grace, they routed the unbelievers, and David killed Goliath; and Allah gave him kingship and wisdom and taught him whatever other things He willed. And if Allah had not been repelling one set of people by means of another, the earth would have been filled with chaos. But Allah is bountiful to the world (and so repels chaos in this way).
