Those who conceal that which Allah has sent down of the Book and take in exchange for that a paltry price, they fill their bellies with nothing but fire. Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And for them is a grievous punishment.

Important Words:

یزکیھم (purify them) is from زکی meaning, he purified him; he elevated him (Aqrab). See also 2:130.

Commentary:

Sin generally originates from an undue love of the world but the world is indeed a small thing as compared with the Hereafter (9:38). Those who forsake truth or conceal it for the things of this world eat naught but fire which will eventually consume their own bodies. The verse beautifully hints that the things of this world, as opposed to spiritual blessings, are like the hellfire of the next. As food goes to make up the tissues of the body, so will the body of an enemy of truth eating fire become one whole mass of fire, serving as fuel for the fire of Hell. The words also signify that as fire cannot satisfy hunger and thirst, but rather increases them, so the things of this world cannot bring about peace of mind and contentment but rather the reverse of them. The verse also constitutes a stern warning to those preachers who, in order to gain worldly ends, accommodate their sermons to the views of the listeners and refrain from speaking the truth.

The words Allah will not speak to them do not mean that God will not speak to them at all; for God, being the Lord and Master, will speak even to the guilty on the Day of Judgement, but such speech will be like that of a judge condemning a criminal to punishment. What is meant is that God will not speak to them with love and affection.

The words, nor will He purify them, mean that He will not adjudge them as purified but will declare them unclean and unholy, These words may also mean that on the Day of Judgement, God will not elevate them or exalt them to Himself but will leave them abased and neglected. Again, as these people opposed the truth in the world in order that they might enjoy the good things thereof, they will correspondingly have a painful punishment in the Hereafter and will be deprived of all sweetness of life in the world to come (see important Words under 2:8).

یقیناً وہ لوگ جو اُسے چُھپاتے ہیں جو کتاب میں سے اللہ نے نازل کیا ہے اور اس کے بدلے معمولی قیمت لے لیتے ہیں، یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جو آگ کے سوا اپنے پیٹوں میں کچھ نہیں جَھونکتے۔ اور اللہ ان سے قیامت کے دن کلام نہیں کرے گا اور نہ ہی ان کو پاک کرے گا اور ان کےلئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

French

En vérité, ceux qui cachent ce qu’Allāh a révélé du Livre et prennent en échange un vil prix, ne se remplissent le ventre que de feu. Allāh ne leur parlera pas au Jour de la Résurrection et ne les purifiera pas. Et pour eux, il y a un châtiment douloureux.

Die aber das verhehlen, was Allah niedergesandt hat von dem Buch, und einen armseligen Preis dafür in Tausch nehmen, sie füllen ihre Bäuche mit nichts als Feuer. Allah wird sie nicht anreden am Tage der Auferstehung, noch wird Er sie reinigen. Und ihnen wird schmerzliche Strafe.

Coloro che nascondono quanto Allah ha rivelato del libro e lo barattano a vile prezzo, si riempiscono il ventre di nient'altro che fuoco. Allah non rivolgerà loro la parola nel Giorno del giudizio, né li purificherà. E per loro è in serbo un doloroso castigo.

Quienes ocultan lo que Al-lah ha hecho descender en el Libro y reciben a cambio de ello un precio mísero, no llenarán sus vientres sino de fuego. Al-lah no les hablará el Día de la Resurrección, ni les purificará. Y para ellos hay un horrible castigo.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

جو لوگ اس (تعلیم) کو جو اللہ نے (الٰہی) کتاب (میں) سے نازل کی ہے چھپاتے ہیں اور اس کے بدلے تھوڑی سی قیمت[3] لیتے ہیں وہ یقیناً اپنے پیٹوں میں صرف آگ ڈالتے ہیں اور قیامت کے دن اللہ نہ ان سے کلام کرے گا اور نہ ان کو پاک قرار دے گا اور ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

حق یہ ہے کہ جو لوگ اُن احکام کو چھپاتے ہیں جو اللہ نے اپنی کتاب میں ناز ل کیے ہیں اور تھوڑے سے دُنیوی فائدوں پرا نہیں بھینٹ چڑھاتے ہیں، وہ دراصل اپنے پیٹ آگ سے بھر رہے ہیں قیامت کے روز اللہ ہرگز ان سے بات نہ کرے گا، نہ اُنہیں پاکیزہ ٹھیرائے گا، اور اُن کے لیے دردناک سزا ہے
