ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَتْلُونَهُۥ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

They to whom We have given the Book follow it as it ought to be followed; it is these that believe therein. And whoso believes not therein, these are they who are the losers.

[a]They to whom We have given the Book follow it as it ought to be followed; it is these that believe therein. And whoso believes not therein, these are they who are the losers.[128]

3:114.

Commentary:

The words, they to whom We have given the Book, clearly refer here to Muslims and not to Jews and Christians, because it is the Muslims that were the true and sincere followers of the Quran and not Jews and Christians who refused to believe in the Quran and rejected it as a piece of fabrication. Jews and Christians have been referred to in the concluding portion of the verse where, owing to their rejection of the Quran, they are spoken of as the losers. The verse provides very high and well-merited praise for the Companions of the Holy Prophet who have been described as true followers of God’s guidance.

English - Short Commentary Translation

[b]They, to whom We have given the Book, follow it as it ought to be followed;[142] it is these that believe therein. And whoso believes not therein, these are they who are the losers.

3:114.

The words refer to Muslims and not to Jews and Christians, because it is the Muslims who are the true and sincere followers of the Qur’an and not the Jews or the Christians who refused to believe in it and rejected it as a piece of fabrication (Qatadah). This meaning of Yatluna is supported by Ibn-e- ‘Abbas, ‘Abdullah bin Mas‘ud, ‘Ata, and ‘Ikrimah.

وہ لوگ جن کو ہم نے کتاب دی درآنحالیکہ وہ اس کی ویسی ہی تلاوت کرتے ہیں جیسا کہ اس کی تلاوت کا حق ہے۔ یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جو (درحقیقت) اس پر ایمان لاتے ہیں۔ اور جو کوئی بھی اس کا انکار کرے پس وہی ہیں جو گھاٹا پانے والے ہیں۔

French

Ceux à qui Nous avons donné le Livre le suivent comme il le faut ; ceux-là y croient. Et ceux qui n’y croient pas, ceux-là sont les perdants.

German

Sie, denen Wir das Buch gegeben, folgen ihm, wie man ihm folgen sollte; sie sind es, die daran glauben. Die aber nicht daran glauben, das sind die Verlierer.

[f]那些我赐了他们经典, 而他们遵守它就像它应受遵守的, 他们确是坚定地信仰它的。凡不信仰它的人, 他们将是损失者。

Italian

Coloro ai quali Noi abbiamo dato il libro, lo seguono come deve essere seguito: sono questi i veri credenti. E quelli che non credono in esso, sono i perdenti.

Spanish

Aquellos, a los que hemos dado el Libro, lo siguen como debe ser seguido; son ésos los que creen en él. Y quienes no crean en él, ésos serán los perdedores.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(وہ لوگ) جنہیں ہم نے کتاب دی[1] ہے وہ اس کی (اسی طرح) پیروی کرتے ہیں جس طرح اس کی پیروی کرنی چاہیئے۔ وہ لوگ اس پر (پختہ) ایمان رکھتے ہیں اور جو لوگ اس کا انکار کریں وہی نقصان اٹھانے والے ہیں۔

اَلَّذِیْنَ اٰتَیْنَاھُمُ الْکِتٰبَ میں اَلْکِتَابَ سے مراد قرآن کریم ہے اور اس آیت میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہود کو ملزم قرار دیا ہے کہ تم نے تو تورات کو پسِ پشت پھینک رکھا تھا۔ مگر اب یہ لوگ جن کو ہم نے قرآن کریم دیا ہے اس پر پوری طرح عمل کرتے ہیں اور اس پر ان کا رسمی ایمان نہیں۔ بلکہ پختہ ایمان ہے۔ (تفصیل کے لئے دیکھیں تفسیر کبیر جلد دوم صفحہ ۱۴۹)۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

جن لوگوں کو ہم نے کتاب دی ہے، وہ اُسے اس طرح پڑھتے ہیں جیسا کہ پڑھنے کا حق ہے وہ اس پر سچے دل سے ایمان لاتے ہیں اور جواس کے ساتھ کفر کا رویہ اختیار کریں، وہی اصل میں نقصان اٹھانے والے ہیں

English - Sahih

Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - it is they who are the losers.

وہ لوگ جنہیں ہم نے کتاب دی ہے وہ اسے پڑھتے ہیں جیسا اس کے پڑھنے کا حق ہے وہی لوگ اس پر ایمان لاتے ہیں جور اس سے انکار کرتے ہیں وہی نقصان اٹھانے والے ہیں
