وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لِّيَكُونُوا۟ لَهُمْ عِزًّا

And they have taken other gods beside Allah, that they may be a source of power for them.

[b]And they have taken other gods beside Allah, that they may be a source of power for them.[2221]

21:25; 36:75.

Commentary:

The verse may signify that disbelievers erect big houses of worship in the name of their idols so that it may redound to their honour and good name, or that they worship false deities seeking thereby nearness to God. To the latter meaning of the verse reference has also been made in 39:4 where it is stated: And those who take for protectors others beside Him say, we serve them only that they may bring us near to Allah in station

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور انہوں نے اللہ کے سوا معبود بنا رکھے ہیں تاکہ ان کے لئے وہ عزت کا باعث بنیں۔

Et ils ont pris des dieux en dehors d’Allāh, afin qu’ils soient pour eux une source d’honneur et de puissance.

Sie haben sich Götter genommen statt Allah, auf dass sie ihnen zur Ehre würden.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ان لوگوں نے اللہ کے سوا بہت سے معبود بنا چھوڑے ہیں‘ اس امید سے کہ وہ ان لوگوں کے لئے عزت کا موجب بنیں (گے) ۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اِن لوگوں نے اللہ کو چھوڑ کر اپنے کچھ خدا بنا رکھے ہیں تاکہ وہ اِن کے پشتیبان ہوں

And they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that they would be for them [a source of] honor.

اور انہوں نے الله کے سوا معبود بنا لیے ہیں تاکہ وہ ان کے مددگار ہوں
