قَالُوٓا۟ أَءِنَّكَ لَأَنتَ يُوسُفُ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا۠ يُوسُفُ وَهَٰذَآ أَخِى ۖ قَدْ مَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ مَن يَتَّقِ وَيَصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

They replied, ‘Art thou Joseph?’ He said, ‘Yes, I am Joseph and this is my brother. Allah has indeed been gracious to us. Verily, whoso is righteous and is steadfast — Allah will never suffer the reward of the good to be lost.’

English - Five Volume Translation

They replied, ‘Art thou Joseph?’ He said, ‘Yes, I am Joseph and this is my brother. Allah has indeed been gracious to us. Verily, whoso is righteous and is steadfast—[a]Allah will never suffer the reward of the good to be lost.’[1590]

12:57.

Commentary:

The way in which Joseph referred to the past behaviour of his brothers, coupled with the repeated assurance of their father that Joseph was alive, did not take long in suggesting to them the idea that the high dignitary standing before them was no other than Joseph himself. So they asked in surprise, "Art thou Joseph?", upon which Joseph, not desiring to keep them in suspense any longer, at once revealed his identity to them. After having disclosed himself to them, he gently told them that one could not overcome difficulties by merely begging and suffering oneself to be degraded, but that the secret of all success lay in piety and patience, in hard work and in trusting in God Who was ever the Protecting Friend of the righteous.

English - Short Commentary Translation

They replied, ‘Art thou Joseph?’ He said, ‘Yes, I am Joseph and this is my brother. Allah has indeed been gracious to us. Verily, whoso fears Allah and is steadfast–– [b]Allah never suffers the reward of the good to be lost.’

12:57.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

انہوں نے کہا کیا واقعی تو ہی یوسف ہے؟ اس نے کہا میں ہی یوسف ہوں اور یہ میرا بھائی ہے۔ اللہ نے یقیناً ہم پر بہت احسان کیا ہے۔ یقیناً جو بھی تقویٰ کرے اور صبر کرے تو اللہ ہرگز احسان کرنے والوں کا اجر ضائع نہیں کرتا۔

French

Ils répondirent : « Est-ce bien toi, Joseph ? » Il dit : « Je suis Joseph, et voici mon frère. Sans aucun doute, Allāh a été gracieux envers nous. En vérité, quiconque fait montre de droiture et est constant – Allāh ne permet pas que soit perdue la récompense de ceux qui font de bonnes œuvres. »

German

Sie antworteten: "Bist du etwa gar Joseph?" Er sprach: "Ich bin Joseph, und dies ist mein Bruder. Allah ist fürwahr gnädig gegen uns (beide) gewesen. Fürwahr, wer immer rechtschaffen und standfest ist – nimmermehr lässt Allah den Lohn der Guten verloren gehen."

他们说: “你就是尤素夫?” 他说: “是的, 我就是尤素夫, 这是我的弟弟。安拉确实慈悯了我们。的确, 凡敬畏而坚定的人, (他们定受回报。) [a]安拉决不会让行善者的报酬丧失的。”

Italian

Replicarono: «Sei veramente tu Giuseppe?» Egli disse: «Sì, io sono Giuseppe e questo è mio fratello. Allah è stato davvero benevolo con entrambi noi. In verità, per chiunque teme Allah ed è saldo, Allah non permette che la ricompensa di chi opera il bene si perda.»

Spanish

Ellos respondieron: “¿Eres tú realmente José?”. Él dijo: “Sí, soy José y éste es mi hermano. Al-lah en verdad ha sido Clemente con los dos. En verdad, quien es justo y perseverante, sepa que Al-lah no permite que se pierda la recompensa de los que hacen buenas obras”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

انہوں نے کہا (کہ) کیا واقعہ میں آپ (ہی) یوسف ہیں؟ اس نے کہا (کہ) ہاں میں ہی یوسف ہوں اور یہ میرا بھائی ہے۔ اللہ نے ہم پر فضل کر دیا ہے حق بات یہی ہے کہ جو (شخص) تقویٰ اختیار کرے اور صبر کرے تو اللہ ایسے محسنوں کا اجر کبھی ضائع نہیں کرتا۔

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

وہ چونک کر بولے "کیا تم یوسفؑ ہو؟" اُس نے کہا، "ہاں، میں یوسفؑ ہوں اور یہ میرا بھائی ہے اللہ نے ہم پر احسان فرمایا حقیقت یہ ہے کہ اگر کوئی تقویٰ اور صبر سے کام لے تو اللہ کے ہاں ایسے نیک لوگوں کا اجر مارا نہیں جاتا"

English - Sahih

They said, "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said "I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allah has certainly favored us. Indeed, he who fears Allah and is patient, then indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کہا کیا تو ہی یوسف ہے کہا میں ہی یوسف ہوں اور یہ میرا بھائی ہے الله نے ہم پر احسان کیابے شک جو ڈرتا ہے اور صبر کتا ہے تو الله بھی نیکوں کا اجر ضائع نہیں کرتا

English - Talal Itani

They said, "Are you indeed, surely you, Yusuf?" He said, "I am Yusuf and this (is) my brother. Indeed, Allah has been gracious to us. Indeed, he who fears Allah and (is) patient, then indeed, Allah (does) not let go waste (the) reward (of) the good-doers."

They said, 'Why, art thou indeed Joseph?' 'I am Joseph,' he said. 'This is my brother. God has indeed been gracious unto us. Whosoever fears God, and is patient -- surely God leaves not to waste the wage of the good-doers.

English - Maududi

They exclaimed: "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said: "Yes, I am Joseph and this is my brother. Allah has surely been gracious to us. Indeed whoever fears Allah and remains patient, Allah does not allow the reward of such people to go to waste."

They said: Is it indeed thou who art Joseph? He said: I am Joseph and this is my brother. Allah hath shown us favour. Lo! he who wardeth off (evil) and endureth (findeth favour); for lo! Allah loseth not the wages of the kindly.

They said: Art thou indeed Joseph? He said: I am Joseph and this is my brother; Allah has indeed been gracious to us. Surely he who keeps his duty and is patient -- Allah never wastes the reward of the doers of good.
